Description

The last disc of this monumental set is a "best-of" compilation of tracks that did make it on the American individual discs, a reminder of just how groundbreaking these sessions were. A really nice box set, but it's a shame that they really missed the care about the records production. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. This mammoth five CD box of seventy nine tracks from his American Recording sessions will only enhance his legend. A fifth disc, titled My Mother's Hymn Book, is a complete, previously unreleased solo acoustic spiritual album.

C. so soon after that of his beloved June, means there is one hell of a choir of Sam Phillips' boys assembling behind the Ol'Pearly Gates. Over the course of five mesmerising CDs, Unearthed shows us just how Johnny Cash's now-legendary handful of recordings for American Records came to be. I was lucky enough to get this eventhough is out print from some time since I wasn't aware that this box was released at that time. One book holds the nine vinyl records while the other is a 60-page coffee table book which contains Sylvie Simmons’ sleeve notes, Cash and Rubin’s comments on every track and plenty of photos from the recording sessions.Unearthed is divided into five thematic sections (it was a five-CD set) with Who’s Gonna Cry focusing on acoustic solo recordings, Trouble In Mind slanted towards electric performances (this section features some guest performances from the likes of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Carl Perkins) and Redemption Songs another acoustic collection, with duets with Joe Strummer, Fiona Apple, Nick Cave and Glen Campbell.

Unearthed was originally released as a CD box set by producer Rick Rubin’s American Recordings in November 2003, two months after the country superstar’s passing.

But this just means that the likes of ''A Singer Of Songs'' and ''Hard Times'' become almost unbearably poignant. The pages housing the vinyls are think heavy cardboard, the whole box is cloth bound, as is the huge hardcover book. One book holds the nine LPs, while the other is a gorgeous 60-page coffee table book that incorporates Sylvie Simmons' extensive liner notes, drawn from five days of interviews at Cash's home in Tennessee, as well as Cash and Rubin's comments on every song on the set, plus a copious selection of photographs from the recording sessions, including some of the last photos ever taken of Cash.

Most riveting are the numerous traditional numbers, the songs that were clearly closest to the Man in Black's heart. Cinque stelle, anche se nel complesso il cofanetto è inferiore ai precedenti 6 LP (o cd) American Recordings dai quali trae un po' di materiale. Note: All tracks previously released, although "Thirteen" features an additional verse that was omitted from its original album release. Condition - This item is in Excellent condition or better (unless it says otherwise in the above description). The fourth disc, My Mother's Hymn Book, features gospel songs Cash first learned from his mother as a child and was later reissued as a standalone album in 2004. Note: All tracks previously unreleased, except "Wichita Lineman" and "Big Iron" which were previously released on the original vinyl pressing of American IV: The Man Comes Around. If you have big fingers be careful because it can be foolishly riped or damaged since the "accordion" jackets to insert the discs don't "spread" or open as wide as you may think, so take this in consideration. Not just a must have for completists but for those who see Cash as a great interpreter of other's work alongside his own. It's hard to think of a more appropriate and impressive send-off for this one-of-a-kind American original than the massive musical statement that is Unearthed.
