So, story wise, this is really, really good. I have formed a strong attachment of Robert Hunter and his partner in Homicide Special Section Carlos Garcia. Combined with how it makes me ponder about the era of Internet and social media, it easily makes this latest installment another favorite. Commander Barbara Blake is brought in to help with the case when they dig further into the identity of the girls they find that all of them are artists of some sort, another body is found but the calling card has changed then Commander Blake disappears this time Hunter will stop at nothing until he finds her what happens from here on is a cat & mouse game between the perp & Hunter. Genesis takes us on another Robert Hunter journey of terror. We meet a killer so vicious and meticulous that even the Ultra-Violent Crimes Unit shudder. He calls himself The Mentor. He torments his victims by causing extreme fear, then excruciating pain and finally death. He always leaves part of a poem with the body and in a day or two after the murder, sends a video message to the victim's loved one. A message that makes them lose their mind.

Andererseits hat sich der Autor mit Robert Hunter auch einen ziemlich langweiligen Ermittler geschaffen. Er ist so glattgeschliffen und perfekt (durchtrainiert, liest viel, Doktortitel mit 23 Jahren, Doktorarbeit ist Pflichtlektüre an der Polizeiakademie, alle kennen ihn, alle bewundern ihn…). Es bleibt wenig Platz für Menschlichkeit bei dieser Figur, deshalb kann man (oder: ich) nur schwer einen Draht zu ihm aufbauen. Last part of the book contains preview from another book! I was sad, I though the story would cover that space too and hence will be bigger. This book will not be for everyone, I totally appreciate that. There are some strong themes of suicide and mental health throughout the story and I think that the author did a wonderful job with it. The dedication at the start is beautiful and made me cry even before I started to read it, The end of the book has details of helplines for those who are struggling. Characters would speak out their frustration even though it felt weird and unnatural. Yes, it succeeded in telling the reader the character's emotions or opinion but I'd much rather Hunter punched a wall so we infer his frustration, rather than him sitting at a computer alone saying, "I am very frustrated." etc. When Robert Hunter, a Detective with the LAPD's Homicide Special Section, receives an anonymous call directing him to go to a certain private web broadcast, a show designed specifically for him begins as soon as he logs in.The only difference was that Hunter got to know a woman and possibly will have a more stable relationship for some time and even though I wanted that for him I can't say I liked her or that I felt who they started to fall in love with each other. It made me feel nothing the three times they interacted during the story and at some I was like "oh great another murder so their meeting will be cut short!" I got more feelings while Hunter comforted a relative of the victim than when he met the woman he is going to have a relationship with.
