Description

As an adult reader, I was constantly worried about one particular idea in this book- the circus itself. Time will tell and this first installment of the Galliano Circus tales ends after nearly 220 pages and then the reader can gear up for the next exciting book that deals with the life of Jimmy Brown. The story starts with how Jimmy and his parents join the circus, where Jimmy's Dad gets a job as a handyman. I found myself sympathising rather more with Mrs Brown than I did as a child, having to struggle to cook and clean in a tiny caravan and deal with a life quite different from anything she had ever experienced before. This marriage ended in divorce, and Blyton remarried in 1943, to surgeon Kenneth Fraser Darrell Waters.

Der hat ein Händchen für Tiere und bekommt einen begabten kleinen Hund geschenkt, mit dem er nach einer kurzen Ausbildung enorme Erfolge feiert. Obviously there are many things that as an adult that I now see in a different light, but the magic still reminds.

EB liked to have a few of her girls adopt a more boyish approach to life, but in this case I think its only a temporary lapse because Lotta has two sides to her world — 'Life in the Camp' and 'Life in the Circus Ring' and no one could accuse her of looking boyish when she's in the latter! One of the dogs becomes ill and Jimmy goes well out of his way to track down an old formula that cures the poor creature.

New places where you could shine and excel and be rewarded/recognised for your talents and hard work. Here's one for those who are fascinated by the workings of the human mind: Near the end, three new horse-riders join the circus. All four books were the first of popular series and all four are now extremely scarce as first editions. Jimmy's a very lucky boy to be shown round like this because you'd think that all the local guys and girls would be hanging around the camp but it's not so. Even though he and his parents can't afford tickets to the show itself, Jimmy quickly gets to know the performers and their marvellous animals, and finds a special friend in Lotta, the cheeky, adventurous young horseback acrobat. He wanders around amongst the caravans and despite being shouted at by one or other of the circus-folk and warned off at one stage by Mr. A good part of the reason why Jimmy is so accepted by the circus folk must surely be his likeable nature.

A classic selection of stories to read and share by one of the world's best-loved children's authors, Enid Blyton. I must confess I re-read it for myself a few years ago and the excitement was still there, I am hoping that Leah enjoys it as much as I did. Animal acts are not very popular these days but it has to be said that Enid Blyton emphasises the fact that, while certain animals are cut out to work alongside humans and respond to an audience, others are not. The two children roam the countryside and let the dogs loose for a good run and very unfortunately, one of them — Darky, is lost! In the meantime, Jimmy and Lotta take the dogs out for a walk and Lotta comments on the way they are attracted to the boy.I was delighted to find a three-in-one Kindle edition (Mr Galliano's Circus, Hurrah for the Circus and Circus Days Again) of the series, as well as the Audible version. Jimmy Brown doesn't exactly "run away to join the circus" but it's a dream come true for him when his father gets a job as carpenter for Mr. The main message is "be kind to animals", which is all well and good, but the situations are rushed and superficial until almost the end of the book. Davie, the illustrator, has supplied a nice little picture of him and Lotta sitting around a fire near the caravans.

Through industry and loyalty, Jimmy earns a new caravan for his parents — a much bigger and more splendid one and there's all the excitement of moving in to it. The problem being that my mum has one of those natural audiobook styled narrator type of talents that meant if anything I wanted to stay up to find out what happened next! They remind you to trust life, to just take the leap and embrace life and whatever it throws at you!AS PICTURED - 5 IMAGES * Second Edition, 1939 A worn copy, complete but with scuffed and marked boards and frequent small handling marks throughout. Perhaps the story is more developed in later volumes, but for now most of the characters--particularly the adults--are two-dimensional and the story is very superficial. In the second book Hurrah for the Circus and the third Circus Days Again, Mr Galliano's famous circus is getting bigger and better all the time. Jimmy soon makes friends with lively, mischievous Lotta the bareback rider, Oona the acrobat and Sticky Stanley the clown, not to mention Jumbo the elephant, Jemima the monkey and Sammy the chimpanzee.
