Digital temperature display: The soft silicone dome-shaped room thermometer features a permanently lit LED display for an accurate temperature reading of the room Room temperature is vital in creating a safe sleeping environment for your baby and should be maintained at 16-20C to help reduce the risk of cot death - " Babies who get too hot are at an increased risk of SIDS. Getting a room thermometer will help you create a safer sleep environment for your baby." Francine Bates, Chief Executive of The Lullaby Trust The soft-glow light helps to create a calming sleep environment has 3 different brightness levels so you can adjust the intensity of the light to suit your little one.

Despite the brightness of the LED display, it’s still an inconspicuous addition to her nursery, so isn’t something she takes much notice which means that it doesn’t negatively affect her sleep. While I’ve used it all year round, this room thermometer was particularly helpful and reassuring during last year’s summer heatwave when I lived in a south-facing, one-bed flat with a then two-month-old baby who I needed to keep cool at all times. USB powered: Mains powered by a 3.5mm USB cable and adaptor plug (1.8m length). The USB adaptor plug is not included but the cable is compatible with most USB plugs used as phone chargers

The Gro Egg gives off just enough light to be an effective nightlight and can be used from birth when the baby shares it’s parent’s room right the way through to older years – there really is no age cap on this product, making Gro Eggs night lights for everyone and really promoting safer sleep. How did we find the Gro-Egg? The Groegg is designed to glow gently and be visible in very low-level light or dark conditions. In lighter conditions use the digital readout. I have plugged in my Groegg but it doesn't seem to be on Rachel: This really does a simple job of telling you the room temperature, but there is something satisfying about having the colour glow “scale”. I’m comparing that to a thermostat in my hallway, which technically does the same thing but is very boring! It made my life easier to an extent, it’s a peace of mind always being aware of the temp of the room is and therefore how to dress my baby. I would describe it as a nice, but not necessary, gadget. My criticism comes as my flat it very hot, so the Groegg always glowed bright red for ‘danger your room is too hot’, but there is very little I could do. Once I knew it was always glowing red it became useless. I imagine in a cooler house, that may feel the temperature dips, its going to have more longevity.

These colours are replicated across the tog labelling for all Tommee Tippee sleepwear. This makes it easier for parents to decide how to dress their children for bedtime for a comfortable night’s sleep. The Lullaby Trust and Health Professionals recommend that the ideal room temperature for your baby is between 61F/16°C and 68F/20°C, and ideally at 18°C/65°F. It's warm weather and my Groegg is red and showing an unhappy face. What shall I do?However the Gro-egg 2 has a new sleek, silicone design that is 33% bigger and brighter, making it softer to touch and even easier to see at a glance, in addition to the innovative colour changing system and digital temperature display, the Gro-egg 2 includes four adjustable brightness levels allowing you to us it as a nightlight or find a light level which suits your baby. The correct room temperature is vital for creating a safe sleeping environment for baby, and the room that your baby sleeps in should be maintained at 16–20°C to help reduce the risk of cot death. While it might not be a product parents think to add to their newborn essentials list, most find a room thermometer to be an invaluable piece of kit to help take the guesswork out of keeping their baby’s nursery at the right temperature. With that in mind, I think the Groegg2 is a great buy. About the author The Gro-egg glows yellow if the room temperature is within recommended guidelines (16-20C), if the temperature is outside this range, it acts as a reminder for you to take action to cool or heat the room, or to adjust your baby's bedding or clothing.

Reviews

I used it daily during a heatwave last year when my daughter was a newborn as I was worried about my flat being too warm and I found it easy to move around the house wherever she was napping. Infant sleep is a minefield at the best of times, but one of the most important parts of a safe and comfortable night’s sleep for babies is their environment. It can be hard to get the right balance though, which is why parents are choosing to invest in a digital room thermometer to give them peace of mind while their baby is asleep. A temperature reading appears on the LED display at the same time, automatically changing whenever there is a temperature shift in the room. USB-powered: This thermometer is powered by a USB cable* so there’s no need for expensive batteries (*excludes adaptor plug but compatible with most USB plugs used as phone chargers)
