Some of them decide to leave the train and try and walk to another station which is supposed to be a walk away.

While the eerie tone contributes greatly, there is not much mystery surrounding the characters as Farjeon presents them. When he died at Hove in Sussex in 1955 his obituary in The Times wrote of his "deserved popularity for ingenious and entertaining plots and characterization".Funnily enough, it reminded me of The Christmas Card Murder that I just read in an anthology with regard to the setup. While the guard and other passengers all stood around gaping at the body, Hopkins decided to try and get to Hemmersby and find a policeman. It had the potential to be one of those fun when you're in the mood for it kind of books, but became harder and harder to ever get in that mood, because I didn't care about any of these people and the constant verbal interaction between the characters I couldn't warm to made it rough going. One of Farjeon's best known works was a play, Number 17, which was made into a number of films, including Number Seventeen (1932) directed by Alfred Hitchcock, and joined the UK Penguin Crime series as a novel in 1939.

The train’s original departure point doesn’t really make any difference to the rest of the story though. This amount includes seller specified domestic postage charges as well as applicable international postage, dispatch, and other fees.It is worth both the new edition and the praise, although it is for me a mystery whose journey is more engaging than its eventual arrival. But the hints of other crimes Tempe’s identification uncovers, particularly crimes against children, spur her on to redouble her efforts despite the new M. I have a bias for mysteries of a more reverend vintage (heavy on dialogue and deductions, light on car chases, gunplay and bedroom scenes) and in that respect Mystery in White does not disappoint. The z Murders is too much of a thriller I think in that the protagonist ends up on a perilous adventure around England because he fancies a woman who is heavily implicated in a murder.

Anyhow, if you are looking for social political commentary that will blow your mind and change your life look elsewhere. well I urge you to listen to this book if you enjoy Agatha Christie or Dorothy L Sayers , I hope Audible will get more of J Jefferson Fargeon's books . But in the white-out, all they find are a series of ditches, and eventually a house—its door unlocked, tea boiling on the stove, fireplace roaring with warmth, and not a soul around to answer them. For a while it looks like they might get lost in the white-out, but they come upon a deserted house. When the porter has no idea when the tracks might be cleared, a group of passengers afraid their Christmas plans will be ruined, set out in hopes of making a connection at the Hemmersby Station, not too far distant. Instead of keeping everyone snugly in place on the trapped train, he sends them out into the wintry whiteness.
