All of those units gain Stealth, and in addition any Sicaran units get the benefit of cover if they are over 12″ from the shooter. This codex also delves into the Adeptus Mechanicus’ arcane beliefs, their advanced cybernetics, the significance of their forge worlds, and their pivotal role within the Imperium, providing a full dossier on their place in the cosmic war. Delve into the mechanical heart of the Adeptus Mechanicus with the comprehensive Codex, detailing the might of Mars' legions and their forge world domains.

For the majority of the Strategems they also have a new rule where if you target a unit of Skitarii with them you can actually have it affect a second unit of Skitarri within 6″, which is pretty cool. Looming above the processions of Skitarii Vanguard and trundling Kataphron Breachers , a curious figure makes its first appearance. They bear an array of esoteric weapons, capable of annihilating foes in volleys of irradiated ammunition or incinerating them with torrents of searing energy.

Whichever weapon he picks he gets to reroll wounds against the keyword his weapon is effective against, and any unit hit by him has to take a battleshock test. Until your next Command phase, each time you target an enemy unit with an attack (ranged or melee), if either your unit or the enemy unit is within range of your Acquisition Target, re-roll wound rolls of 1. The Rad-Zone Corps retains a bit of an all-rounder feel from the Index, with maybe a bit more of a focus on taking a combined arms list. The army in 9th Edition set up a ton of rules layering that seemed not that exciting to play with or against.

This strategem no longer gives out Advance and Charge, which is a shame, but there’s a silver lining. If you’ve ever fought Chaos Space Marine and had to play the five-dimensional mind games of Dark Obscuration, then imagine that, but now serving the Omnissiah. Within its pages you’ll find the rules you need to play an Adeptus Mechanicus army in games of Warhammer 40,000 – including narrative Crusade campaigns and Combat Patrol skirmishes – plus a treasure trove of information on their mysterious techno-dogma, bizarre bionics, prominent forge worlds, and their role within the Imperium. We have one new brand unit in the book in the form of the Sydonian Skatros, a dedicated sniper who can be tooled out to deal with Characters armed with a Precision, Anti Infantry 3+ Jezzail putting out Damage 3 at AP-2 (A pair of those would be very effective of taking out characters sat in units) or can harm vehicles and monsters with a Anti Monster 4+ Anti Vehicle 4+ aqurebus (Though this is only damage D3 so a little less effective).

Five full Detachments – each with their own Enhancements and Stratagems – feature alongside 30 datasheets, supported by lashings of lore, painting tips, galleries of beautiful miniatures, and new tech-hunting Crusade rules. Coming in at a whopping 2CP, you’ve got Binharic Offence which improves the AP of all weapons in two Skitarii units, in either the fighting or shooting phase, but both of those units must target the same enemy unit.A veteran Machine Savant can repair even the most broken war-engines, and long hours spent scouring records for hints of buried technology can hone whatever mechanical olfactory sensors a Tech-Priest has in place of a nose, making them a Holy Acquistor – an expert at snooping out lost archeotech. This is relatively unique and can potentially be very nasty, especially if you’re going second and are able to react to your opponent each turn by picking whichever objective they’re currently trying to hold. This last one in particular would be nice on a Datasmith to ensure that your robots can bounce back a mortal wound every phase they are shot at. At the start of the first Battle Round, this Detachment gets to pick one of two game-long buffs for Cult Mechanicus stuff to benefit from. For another wild combination of abilities, Clandestine Infiltrator grants both Infiltrators and Scout 6”.

It’s a perfectly engineered sniper, and little escapes its all-seeing achillan eye and fine-tuned elimination protocols. This detachment wants you to take a lot of little Skitarii, and it makes them flexible, fast, and a big problem for your opponent. As much fun as it’s been to erase an entire unit of marines each time it shoots, and it has been fun, that combination of abilities has quite honestly never been healthy for the game. A single burst of data causes the mightiest VEHICLE to convulse and malfunction as its weapons falter and basic motor functions grind and spark.

Codex: Adeptus Mechanicus is an invaluable guide to collecting and gaming with the Adeptus Mechanicus. For your melee units, there’s Chant of the Remorseless Fist (+1 to wound in melee), and Verse of Vengeance (fight on death on a 4+) to ensure you get the most out of them. Priority Reclamation gives your units a 6″ consolidate move as long as you move closer to your priority marker.
