For me this often goes hand-in-hand with Filter type pedals - and there is some degree of overlap, while there are also distinct pedals in each category. Sometimes the separation is rather arbitrary, while I stand by my selections here. The one Auto-Wah pedal I own in this category is the Custom Shop CryBaby Q-Zone Fixed Wah - and I've still to get ANO from the Boss AW-3 Dynamic Wah, Mad Professor Snow White AutoWah - or possibly even the brand new Tone City Funny Boy Auto Wah. Employing COSM-modeling technology, the BOSS RT-20 is slightly old in the tooth but still a popular stereo pedal, offering adjustable Rise Time, Horn and Bass speed, Overdrive, and more. It can also be used to create unique overdrive and pulsating effects. It offers a cool graphical view of the virtual rotors on its built-in display. I obviously typically go for tap-tempo or multi-speed varieties - which can be seen by most of my principal choices within this overall roundup - and I feel it's a somewhat neglected area in that only the JHS Unicorn has tap-tempo at this size. That said there are a number of decent alternatives at this size - Lovepedal Vibronaut, TC Electronic Viscous Vibe, DigiTech Ventura Vibe (again), Dunlop / MXR JHM7 Jimi Hendrix Uni-Vibe, and EarthQuaker Devices The Depths amongst them. Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd. is a subsidiary of Meta Platforms, Inc. based in the USA. It cannot be ruled out that your data collected by Facebook will also be transmitted to the USA. The stereo Strymon Lex is simpler than it looks, with four tone shaping knobs: Fast Rotor Speed, Preamp Drive, Mic Distance, Horn Level. Four “hidden” knobs allow extensive tone tweaking: Slow Rotor Speed, Cab Direction, Acceleration Time, +/- 6dB Boost/Cut. Selectable Cab Filter and dedicated speed ramp footswitch are useful extras.

There's no shortage of really decent alternatives in this category - per my recent Compact Chorus Overview - which came a little before the Julianna release if you're wondering why that's missing from that overview. The Analog.Man Mini Analog Chorus is also excellent, along with the EarthQuaker Devices Sea Machine, Electro-Harmonix EDDY Chorus/Vibrato with Enveloper Filter, JAM Pedals Waterfall, Lichtlaerm Trugbild, Mad Professor Double Moon, MXR M234 Analog BBD Chorus, Neunaber Inspire Tri-Chorus Plus V2, Paradox Effects Futura, and VFE Choral Reef.EarthQuaker devises The Depths V2 as a great analog optical vibrato pedal that can bring you some of the great vibrato tones you heard in iconic songs like Robin Trower’s “Bridge of Sighs” and Hendrix’s “Machine Gun.” It comes with plenty of controls, including Intensity, Level, Rate, Throb, and Voice controls to shape your sound, and it has the Flexi switch for momentary or latching operations.

I could only really find one proper Mini Rotary equivalent - Mooer to the rescue again with its Soul Shiver! A stereo, digital recreation of the famous analog original, this one is a little darker than many of the others. Tone Print enabled, but no expression control.

The Croatian team at DryBell has been invested in the idea of creating the best possible Uni-Vibe pedal for years – and that’s all they did from the inception of the company around 2010 until 2019. The result of this commitment was the Vibe Machine V1, released in 2012, one of the most (if not the most) versatile Vibes around, an evolution that retains the tone and character of the vintage units, while greatly expanding on the sonic possibilities. There's a whole lot of competition for the Mini Tremolo too - including F-Pedals Tremelon Mini Tremolo, Ibanez Mini Tremolo, JHS Tidewater, Malekko Onicron Mini Analog Tremolo, Mooer Trelicopter, Mooer Triangolo Tremolo, MXR M305 6-Mode Tremolo, OneControl Tiger Lily Tremolo Mini, Tone City Tremble Tremolo, and Xvive V16 Undulator Mini Tremolo. The Ibanez ended up as the principal mini choice here. The Dunlop Rotovibe is a sturdy, original take executed in a no-frills fashion, although the treadle-based approach controlling the effect’s intensity makes it stand apart from the competition.

However, the Gear4music extended warranty scheme provides an enhanced service, and is designed to offer a higher level of protection than many 'free' warranties offered by some retailers and manufacturers. The pedal comes with three control knobs, including Depth, Rate, and Lag control knobs. Plus, there are the selectable waveform and tap tempo division switches. Also, there is the D-C-V knob which allows you to blend the dry and wet sound to give you a Dry, Chorus, or Vibrato tone.

Specifications

Empress Nebulus is a highly versatile analog chorus, flanger, and vibrato pedal with many different modes for creating unique effects. There are mix, rate, depth, and output control knobs to finetune your sound, but real versatility is provided with the mode and sub-mode switches. What I would really like to see in a compact Rotary pedal is the trifecta of Rotary Footswitch functions - Fast / Slow / Brake courtesy of a second footswitch - and with proper stereo input and output! The green drive offers a classic, mid-forward voicing, while the red drive delivers a fatter, smooth boosted overdrive. On the vibe side, the green option gives you traditional Uni-Vibe tones, while the red vibe a more phasey version of it with increased high-frequency emphasis. Fully Midi-compatible. A simple 3-knob take on Jimi Hendrix’s favorite modulation effect. Vbe mode has its own sounds and flavor consisting in a subtle pitch modulation, while Chorus mode will activate the Color knob, which changes the phase relationship of the effected signal in relation to the dry one, which slightly modifies the tone’s character depending on the setting. I'm more than happy with the Thorpy Camoflange, which I still consider best in class, and that will surely remain my favourite for pretty much forever - I have though earmarked a Retro-Sonic Flanger for acquisition too - with its further enhancements recently to its high frequency response.
