Description

Although the bottle was not for myself I had chance to try it as it was opened it's pleasantly stronger and deeper in taste and mouthfeel compared to the suntory Toki more of an emphasis on barrel spice but still maintaining the floral notes. Please always read the labels, warnings, and directions provided with the product before using or consuming a product. The Hakushu Distillery was founded in 1973 and became Suntory's second distillery some 50 years after Yamazaki. He embarked on his journey with a very clear vision as to what he wanted to achieve - to craft top-class, authentic Japanese spirits that were delicately flavoured to suit the nation's tastes. I'd never tried a Japanese whisky before, sticking strictly to aged single malt Scotch, but really wanted to give it a go, so when we saw this on sale we just grabbed it.

From the Suntory team and their Hakushu Distillery comes their 18yr Aged Single Malt Whisky which spent its maturation process inside Oak Barrels. The initial Hakushu distillery came into existence in 1973, followed by the addition of a second facility, Hakushu Higashi (East), in 1981.Keizo Saji inherited his father’s vision in his quest for innovation and constructed this second Suntory distillery in 1973.

A signature bottle from the Hakushu range, the Hakushu Distiller’s Reserve showcases the complex flavour combination it has become famed for. As it glides across the palate, a gentle sweetness emerges, accompanied by vibrant fruity tones and the subtle presence of oak. This whiskey boasts a smooth and refined finish that lingers, leaving a satisfying warmth that resonates long after the last sip. From the Hakushu distillery in the foothills of Mount Kaikomagatake comes their Distiller's Reserve single malt whisky, a no-age-statement expression, that captures the smoky, herbaceous characteristics of their whiskies. A timeless classic and an essential experience for those eager to explore Japanese whisky, Hakushu stands as a notable brand under Suntory, the pioneers who established Yamazaki, Japan's inaugural distillery.

A light peat combined with moist forest floor, bamboo, grass, but more warm than bitter and a pinch of anise and tarragon. This Distiller's Reserve is created using a blend of ""young talent"" whisky, a whisky of at least 18 years and a whisky of around 12 years for a distinct, rich flavour.
