Description

The results here were surprising to me, as I had expected the Frozen Notte to have better performance in comparison to air cooling based on my results with Intel’s i9-13900K. Default Power Limits

Arctic Cooling MX-4 or MX-5 I was using on 3 builds in past and to the date(I built them like 8 months ago) I didn't replace TIM there, temperatures are still same and took apart only one of build and from TIM spread and viscosity of TIM, TIM is still okay and didn't dry out on GPUs, all 3 builds are running 3080 or 3080Ti and 3090 Corsair Commander Pro, 100%/50% PWM Speed profiles (liquid cooling pump always @100%, if applicable)In this experiment, we tested the heat transferability of 9 different thermal pastes. With each thermal paste, we: Modern CPUs, whether Intel or AMD, are difficult to cool in intensive workloads. In the past reaching 95C+ on a desktop CPU might have been a cause for concern – but with today’s processors, it is considered normal operation. Similar behavior has been present in laptops for years due to cooling limitations in tight spaces. For AMD Threadripper, apply four 3-4mm dots in a rectangular pattern roughly halfway in from the four corners of the processor. Then apply nine smaller 2mm dots interspersed evenly around and between the four larger dots. In other words, apply three 2mm dots along each of the shorter edges of your Threadripper chip and three more in a line across the center. Once again, it's less important that these 13 dots be exactly this size than it is to make sure you aren't using substantially more thermal paste than this in total. Next Steps We tested each thermal paste with a low-tension air cooler mount, high-tension air cooler mount, and a high-tension AIO liquid cooler mount. Each application was given a 1-hour burn-in using Prime95 with ten load and cooling cycles over the course of the hour; six minutes each with a ten-second cool-down between. Each testing load session was then executed for a one-hour load period, again using Prime95. If you’re looking for noise normalized results to see how coolers compare when set for silent operation, you’ll want to fast forward to the Ryzen 7700X results at the last half of this review. For testing with Intel’s i9-13900K, these results will show performance and acoustic results when tied to the default fan curve of my motherboard. No Power Limits

Older Intel processors have a compact surface area with their primary components in in the center of the chip, under the heat spreader. As such, you should apply one 3-4mm dot on the center of the CPU, just like in the image above of the AMD AM5 CPU. How to Apply Thermal Paste on an AMD AM4 CPUAs you can see from the data, Kooling Monster KOLD-01 beats out the next leading thermal paste by close to a full degree and the lowest-performing thermal paste by more than 4 degrees. It also comes with a tube of the thermalright TF7 thermal compound but I have no idea how well it works as I've used Noctua NT-H1 or NT-H2 for years. I'm asymbling my new "main" rig and ran into some trouble. Skipping the story, I had to remove my HSF from the CPU and will have to do it again for further troubleshooting. I used the thermal paste that it came with and when I reinstalled, I used the last of my Noctua NT-H1. Before you start posting about how bad it is and how great liquid metal is.... There’s more to a cooler than just it’s heat sink, the fans paired with a cooler have a direct impact on cooling capacity and acoustic performance – included with the Frozen Notte are two 120mm TL-E12B-S fans which come pre-installed to the cooler for simplicity of installation. SYY-157 is again good paste, easy to spread, cheap and performance is on par with TFX or Kryonaut, that thermal paste will not dry out after while, used that on few builds and no issues, this TIM I was using on my another RTX 3090 and no issues, temperatures was within 1-2°C from TFX and core to GPU hot-spot delta was in 8-10°C

We're not saying the advice below is the absolute best method or the only correct method. We're just saying it works, and it's more or less what's recommended by PC thermal experts like Noctua and others. The results in this scenario are much like the previous ones, with Thermalright’s Frozen Notte performing on par with Iceberg Thermal’s IceSLEET X7 Dual in both thermal performance and total noise levels. 75W PPT From a good deal of reading and research, I've discovered that user results have varied greatly from case to case and when using these after market frames, with some tests showing no improvement at all, some showing slight improvement and still some, as with my own example, showing rather significant improvements in CPU thermal performance. a.) This means no power limits on Intel’s i7-13700K, and AMD’s default power limits on AMD’s Ryzen 7 7700X.Kingpin KPx seems is one of the best TIM but sadly its not available here in UK, I got just small tube which I was using on one of the build and from tests, that paste would beat TFX or SYY-157 and ZF-EX maybe 1-2°C, I have built friend loop like 6 months ago and to the date temperatures are still okay and not increasing Lowering the PPT to 75W further reduces the cooling difficulty, bringing CPU temperatures down to 40C over a 23C ambient temperature. As with the previous results, when paired with AMD’s Ryzen 7700X the Frozen Notte performs on par with Iceberg Thermal’s IceSLEET X7 Dual air cooler.

I used NT-H1 in my 3090 Eagle and the initial results were great with 70c just after repasting. However the temps kept climbing and now I'm around 80c after three months or so. I know this is been asked a lot, but still there is no conclusive answer and is not easy to believe anything you read around this subject simply cause no one has done a long term review of multiple TIMs.

Liquid metal compounds make their way to the top of the temperature chart with slightly cooler values than the traditional pastes. Interestingly, the difference between the top and bottom of this chart is less than 4C. GC-Extreme I was using only on older GPUs and CPUs and there performance was meh for me, sometimes was on par with EK Ecotherm or Hydronaut but sometimes was worse than cheap TIM
