Description

This is a compelling read with a fantastic protagonist, and is more nuanced than a typical by-the-numbers detective tale. Jay is a highly sympathetic and self-aware character and is one readers are sure to root for the entire way through. He and his brother have their own demons, and their relationship is not all that perfect, yet they have a lot of love for each other. It has a true to life ending and is not one to be overlooked. Having two young daughters, Rosa and Frankie, Jay’s content focuses primarily on them, capturing funny moments and memories that he uploads on TikTok, which his followers seem to love. The Stoic—As he fought the disease that eventually ended his life, Jay remained the happy warrior, glass half full. He told me that work sustained him. We met in Boston for a client briefing. I told him that I admired his courage, that I had beaten cancer and that he would too. He gave me a hug, a famous Jay P smile, and said, “You bet, boss.”

I just do what I love to do, and that's play football." Top draft prospect Joey Porter Jr. hopes to blaze his own path in the NFL with his father, Joey Porter Sr., by his side. (Photo by Randy Litzinger/Icon Sportswire) Jay is repairing his life when a mysterious stranger comes to him with an offer that is too good to be true. A big bundle of cash in exchange for locating a missing teen boy who could have been abducted by a radical recovery group out in the northern New Hampshire wilds. Skeptical of gift horses and uninterested in reenlisting in the local war on drugs and so he passes on the offer. The very next day, his boss is discovered beaten and left for dead, with Jay being painted as the main suspect.

I used to know someone who referred to some folks who fit that category as being a shark in a goldfish bowl. The problem that Jay discovers is that those type of sharks will do just about anything to maintain their sharkitude. I don't (do interviews) because it's his journey and his time," Porter Sr. said. "I don't ever wanna make the situation about me because it's not, it's about him." Edelman Digital—When Jay was head of San Francisco, there was a very strong contingent of social digital team members in the office. I was pleased with the development of the business but deeply upset by the increasing separation of the PR and digital teams. I heard about plans by the digital team to spin out of Edelman. Jay organized a dinner near the Bay Bridge, playing peacemaker between me and top executives of West Coast digital. I explained that I wanted digital in the main part of the business, not a separate unit. I explained further that I wanted the creatives and planners to work on PR assignments not just digital. Jay made the Bay Area team the model for the Edelman of today, with creative and strategy at the core. Paranoid from his previous brushes with the law, Porter does not go to the police with what happened, sure he is likely to become a target. But the case won't leave him alone, because suddenly a mysterious stranger tells him to stay out of the case. Of course, Porter won't, and that leads him into an increasingly murky and harrowing investigation of why the woman he rescued was involved in a shooting death.

You see it, you know what it's about, you understand it. There's less dreaming about it and more planning and taking action to create that end result. And I just think that that creates a higher potential floor and makes the acquisition less mystical." What to know for the 2023 NFL draft Porter’s floundering without his wife is touchingly conveyed. “There are things she knew about her family, not secrets so much as hard-earned intimacies, that she inadvertently took with her, leaving the rest of them to fend for themselves in this new, foreign land, daily meeting at the kitchen table, or passing in the hallway, without their shared interpreter.” He's brought up probably every meeting I've been in," Porter Jr. said with a wide grin at the combine. "Just, 'How'd you grow up with him? How was it? Was he in your corner?' Simple stuff I was just asked today. He's brought up a lot. No big deal." Well, shall we end it there?” I say, and stand and shake his hand. As I do I look at the notepad. In the top left hand corner he has drawn an angry rectangle.

Houston, Texas in 1981. Jay Porter is an attorney who's scraping by, with clients comping him in favors rather than paying his legal fees. Determined to do something nicer for his wife Bernie on her birthday than buying her a bathrobe, Jay arranges for a moonlit cruise on Buffalo Bayou. The brown waterway is too putrid to have ever been developed and the raggedy boat they're on can't even turn around in it. Just as Bernie, pregnant with the couple's first child, begins to appreciate Jay's thought, they hear two gunshots and a woman's scream. When a white woman crashes through the brush and sinks into the murk, Jay rescues her.
