Extra features are a bonus, like the Philips OLED807's Ambilight technology. This isn't a must-have, but it does upgrade your watching experience considerably, so we were sure to highlight the added features that we believe you'll genuinely value. But behind the screen is Sony’s Acoustic Surface Audio+ tech, which uses three actuators behind the panel to create sound by vibrating the screen itself, creating a big open sound. There are two more actuators at the side to add width, while two woofer drivers add bass. While it might be tempting to think that bigger is better, the size of set that’s right for you is closely dependent on how close to the screen you’ll be sitting, and the resolution of the source material you’re watching.

The Philips OLED807 is one of the few TVs that we can confidently call glamorous. This is Philips' latest OLED TV and it's eye-catching in a whole bunch of ways. It has an incredibly thin screen and high-quality metallic finish offset to spectacular effect by Philips’ Ambilight technology. With LGs' Game Optimizer feature included, the LG B3 is a real dark horse for gaming. The ability to tweak so many settings while playing really means you can tailor your gaming experience to whatever game you're playing. It also has 4K 120Hz, VRR, ALLM and Dolby Vision gaming support. It's just a shame that this is only on two of its four ports, but that's okay for the more casual among us.

Value for money is another key consideration. Sure many of the TVs in this list are pricey, but there's a difference between an expensive TV and one that really lives up to that price. Several of the TVs above might be eye-wateringly expensive, but if you have the money to spend, we promise they're worth it. TCL has been pretty forthright in recent times about its belief that LED – especiallyMini LED– is the future of TV, rather thanOLED, and the C845K is the brand's latest attempt to put its money where its mouth is.

While TVs aren't known for their sound quality, the Panasonic LZ2000's 360° Soundscape Pro audio performance is on par with an upper mid-range Dolby Atmos soundbar. As we said in our review: "The soundstage is wide and high, and front articulation from the Technics-tuned LCR soundbar array is outstanding." If you're buying a TV below 32 inches and can save a lot of money on a Full HD model, by all means go for it (4K won't be a huge benefit at that sort of size anyway), but otherwise 4K is both worthwhile and, in all likelihood, your only option. Should you buy an 8K TV?

B-series Soundbar

You can select different audio modes depending on how you place the TV, too. So whether it’s sitting on a TV cabinet, or wall-mounted, you can rest assured you’ll get the best possible sound quality. You want well-balanced audio out of the box: Sound here is on the ‘edgy’ side. But with most TVs, we really would recommend a soundbar anyway. While flagship sets with discrete speaker systems will sound even better, for a step-down model the A80L sounds very impressive. This should be a strong consideration for anyone with this sort of budget who is determined not to combine their new TV with a dedicated sound system. You'll watch in a bright room often: This is the least bright OLED in this list, which means it's susceptible to reflections when watching during the day, or with bright lights on. A mini-LED TV for the same price would be better for daytime viewing.
