Whisk all ingredients together. Drizzle under running water while filling the bath. Moisturizing Honey Bubble Bath The fragrance oil that I am using for these bubble bars is Sugared Strawberry Fragrance Oil it is a sweet strawberry scent. The strawberry scent is enhanced by light notes of sweet nectar, green apples, and grape.

Our skin actually houses good bacteria that shouldn’t be washed away too often. That’s why skin-to-skin touching is so important to newborns who are developing their microbiome. Coco Glucoside is our secondary surfactant. It is compatible with anionic, cationic and nonionic surfactants. We use this to improve the foam (makes the bubbles more stable and last longer) and to help with wetting the mixture to make a “dough”. Add all of the dry ingredients (baking soda, citric acid, SLSa, and cream of tartar) to a bowl and mix lightly with a whisk. My mom used JOY soap for the bubbles, but hey, it was the 80s. Baby Genevieve holding a bottle of JOY I crumbled half of this bubble bar into the bath. The bubble bar itself looks so solid and it is, but when crumbled has a softer texture to it. It created bubbles straight away while it was thrown under the warm running water. I was actually surprised how many bubbles were created and how soft, fluffy and airy they were! Underneath the surface the bath was a shade of soft pink. Overall a very inviting bath to look at.

Another option is to make your own bubble bath! This is great for the DIY-ers or folks who want to make 100% sure their bubble bath is toxin-free. Kokum Butter: Kokum butter is a hard brittle butter that helps our bubble bar hold its shape. You can swap this out for cocoa butter. Place the shea butter, kokum butter and fractionated coconut oil in a heat safe container. Place in a double boiler until the butters are completely melted. Same old story: Most of the bubble bath soaps on the market contain some really terrible ingredients… parabens, fragrances, even formaldehyde. Yep.

Don’t be fooled: Many natural bubble bath options are pure but don’t create big or lasting bubbles. You’d be better saving your money and using a simple olive oil bar. In a small container mix together the wet ingredients (vegetable glycerin, coco glucoside, polysorbate 80, fragrance oil and melted cocoa butter) until they are fully combined. The Cream of Tartar is used to help harden the bubble bar and to help hold the ingredients together so our bars don’t fall apart.

Take out a small portion of the strawberry bubble bar mixture for the green tops of the strawberries. Add a green mica powder and mix well. The Baking Soda is used to help to create the “dough” for the bar. When it is introduced to the bath water, it also helps with softening the water. It makes the water softer because it makes it slightly more alkaline. Whisk all ingredients together. Drizzle under running water while filling the bath. Super Bubble Bath There are so many different ways to customize you solid bubble bar by creating new shapes. You can make it with an ice cream scoop, rolled into a bar or with a mold.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix well. I like to start out with a spoon or spatula and then finish mixing it with my hands. Vegetable Glycerin: We use vegetable glycerin to make the bars a little more moldable and less likely to break apart. It is also a humectant, which means that it will draw moisture to itself. Shea Butter: We need some oils to add a moisturizing element and also to bind the bar together. You could substitute the shea butter for mango butter.

How About You?

But should that obstacle stand in the way of a natural mama and her kids’ bath time? Not in my household.

In this recipe I am using three surfactants. Two of the surfactants (SLSa and Cocamidopropyl betaine) are to create bubbles and the third (polysorbate 80) is an emulsifier. Add the melted butters and the remaining wet ingredients (vegetable glycerin, polysorbate 80, fractionated coconut oil and strawberry fragrance oil) to your oils. The addition of magnesium rich salt gives this bubble bath a soothing and rejuvenating boost. Great for calming kids before bedtime!

Baking Soda and Citric Acid: We use the baking soda and citric acid to create the base for the dough and to cause a fizzing when introduced to water. The fizzing helps to break up the solid bubble bar into the water. Since we are not using a preservative, you do not want to introduce it to water and then reuse the bar. It is best to just break off a bit. Combine the wet and dry ingredients together. It is going to take quite a bit of mixing to get it to your dough-like consistency. The finished mixture is going to feel a little too wet for a bubble bar, just trust that it will harden up for you. The “hygiene hypothesis” states that too few exposures to bacteria and pathogens in early childhood may interfere with proper immune system development. Studies have found that too frequent bathing may indeed lead to asthma, eczema and even diabetes and leukemia.
