Whilst I would have agreed a few years ago, sighed and eye-rolled with a half-smile, it saddened me because I now believe there is more for all of us. With conversations on Maternal Mental Health on the rise, and more women speaking up about the way they feel, Anna Mathur's insight as a psychotherapist AND mother make her someone you feel you can trust.

MIND OVER MOTHER is a warm and accessible guide to understanding and addressing anxiety in motherhood, for every mother - based on grounded techniques that have been widely tried and tested, but most importantly, have changed the life of the author herself (a mum and psychotherapist). Anxiety in motherhood is more common that you think and psychologist, Anna Mathur has written a book all about it. You seem to be in this endless pursuit of perfection and yet no matter how perfect you are for your baby, you never seem to see it.Habits are habits because they are so much easier to engage in, regardless of how unhelpful they are. A beautifully designed book full of inspiring quotes and tried-and-tested wisdom on using positivity to create a life you love.

In Mind Over Mother, Anna Mathur, psychotherapist and mum of three, explains how to: Understand anxiety, why it affects you and what to do about it. My favourite part about the book was the determination and passion with which the author promotes the idea that worry and mum guilt - those two things that mothers wear like badges of honour sometimes - don't have to be a normal everyday part of being a parent.

It provided some reassurance and practical tips (breathing exercises, for instance) but I'm not sure it will have a lasting impact on me. I had every intention of passing this book onto a friend when I finished, then one friend turned into two, then three, then four. This helped more to understand my head and anxiety than the IESO online therapy that I was assigned to when I finally reached out to the health visitor and was diagnosed with moderate depression and severe anxiety… only wish i had found this book at the beginning of my struggles instead of 12 months down the line! This is a used book - there is no escaping the fact it has been read by someone else and it will show signs of wear and previous use.

And because it has become culturally acceptable, we forget that we can do something to change it and make things better for ourselves. SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER THE MADNESS, ABSURDITY, AND UTTER CHAOS OF BEING A PARENT FROM THE HOSTS OF THE NO. I could understand the first chapter being a run down of anxiety but I picked this up expecting a bit more and I don’t have the time to keep reading to see if it gets deeper. Loads of helpful techniques and question points to help you fully understand and get to the root of how you feel in this season of life.To be able to dip in and out of the pages when time allows is really helpful and I know passages will be read and re read over and over when the darkness descends. In this extract from her book Mind over Mother: Every mum’s guide to worry and anxiety in the first years, Anna talks to us about how to start recognising your own anxious thoughts. This book has taken my understanding to a whole new level and to a place where I feel much less alone in my battle and I now have some practical tools I am looking forward to exploring as I continue my journey. After reading Anna's book and taking time to complete the optional tasks at the end of each chapter I instantly felt the weight lift from my shoulders and the cloud shift. This book reminds you of the amazingness that you are as a mum, whilst giving you the massive hug you need to get through all those moments you think you won't survive.
