Much like Gudetama, Cinnamoroll is one of those Sanrio characters who doesn’t get enough attention. A puppy who uses his bunny-like ears to soar through the clouds deserves to be featured in more media. I’m a bit disappointed that the manga didn’t feature Lloromannic, but I guess demons like Berry and Cherry aren’t fluffy enough for this series. However, I recognize that this was my own expectation and nothing more. Fluffy, Fluffy Cinnamoroll (ふわふわ♥シナモン, Fuwa Fuwa Shinamon)) is a manga series with the story and art by Yumi Tsukirino and the concept by Chisato Seki. Released entirely in color,and aimed at elementary school children, it uses a Sanrio character and was released in North America by the Vizkids line of Viz Media. It was originally serialized in Japan from 2004 through 2008 in the following magazines: Shōgaku Ichinensei, Shōgaku Ninensei, Shōgaku Sannensei, Shōgaku Yonnensei, Shōgaku Gonensei, and Pucchigumi (ぷっちぐみ). In the 2013 Sanrio Character Ranking, if Cinnamoroll won the character ranking, he will play "Oshikura manju" with his friends. However, he failed to reach that rank. Okumura was warned not to use blue as Cinnamon's image color, in fear of driving away the population of female fans. This ended up being a smart move, making Cinnamon a unique character in Sanrio's lineup.

This Sanrio manga is the result of a collaborative effort. You see, Yumi Tsukirino is credited for the story and illustration for the series. Chisato Seki, however, came up with the original concept. With their powers combined, they made a fun and kawaii manga series for the world to enjoy. According to Wikipedia, the manga originally ran in Pucchigumi, a monthly children’s manga magazine, and remained serialized in Japan from 2005 to 2008. Like the Japanese series, there are five English volumes in total, all of which the children’s division of VIZ Media subsequently published during 2012. I figured I would start with the first one to see how I liked it.

Reason for Reading: Always looking for good, clean, fun manga for younger kids. This piqued my interest. In 2017, Cinnamon celebrated his 15th anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, the city of Shinagawa has since appointed Cinnamon as the official tourism ambassador. In addition, the permanent Cinnamoroll Cafe opened in Shinjuku City, and an album titled "Cinnnamon Trip!!" was released, with songs written and composed by Vocaloid artist, OSTER Project. I recommend Fluffy, Fluffy Cinnamoroll Vol. 1 to all Sanrio fans, or even just fans of Cinnamoroll. This manga will give you the much-needed dose of kawaii you need in the name of kawaii self-care. The art style is simple but striking, especially when you see it in color. This book has a “baby’s first manga” energy to it because it’s intended audience is 8 to 12 years old. Nonetheless, if I were a parent, I would feel safe showing my child this lighthearted manga and immersing them in the fluffy world of Cinnamoroll and his friends. It's instead used as a stage name or an overseas trademark, similarly to how Hello Kitty is a stage name for Kitty White. The Cinnamoangels soon became a famous, underground street trio after lots of time, and Galette found out about them. Soon, Mocha confessed her feelings for Galette and turns out Galette had the same feelings. And Rosella was actually Galettes cousin.

As many of you know, I’ve been turning to classic comics to keep me entertained during the coronavirus outbreak/quarantine/social distancing. With release dates rapidly changing (like it did for the second volume of What’s Michael?), many people of the otaku persuasion are turning to older forms of media for our entertainment. Fluffy, Fluffy Cinnamoroll Vol. 1 was initially published on January 3, 2012, making it dated but still more than cute enough to catch my attention. January 3 is also my birthday, so I figured I was destined to read this manga. Plus, Cinnamoroll and Milk look so sweet on the cover.Rebecca Silverman of the Anime News Network ranked the series "B" overall, "B−" for the story, and "B" for the art. Silverman argued that the book has a "sweet story, simple art, and bright colors" that appeal to its intended audience, although the book would not hold the interest of an adult reader; she stated "All in all," the first two volumes of the series "provide a nice transition from the picture book to the chapter book, or simply an alternative for the reluctant reader."
