Description

On the nose, one gets a lot of sweet, rich honey and bready malt, light floral notes and some more herbaceous, grassy tones. Light, neutral oak and woodiness is present but not too big a factor, lost somewhere behind the sweeter impressions, plus some berry-like fruit. Shane MacGowan wrote a blog for The Guardian in 2006, detailing his thoughts on the current tour. [34] The Pogues with Shane MacGowan, 11 October 2006 in San Diego

Guitarist Phil Chevron has stated there were no plans to record new music or release a new album. Chevron said that one way to keep enjoying what they were doing was to avoid making a new album, although he did say that there still is a possibility in the future for new music, but certainly not in the near future. Terry Woods has commented that MacGowan has been writing, and most of it sounds good. In 2008 the band released a box set Just Look Them Straight in the Eye and Say....POGUE MAHONE!!, which included rare studio outtakes and previously unreleased material. [35] Nose: Treacle tart with clotted cream; Bazooka Joe bubble gum; clover honey, artificial banana, and toasted barley, along with a brush of vanilla cake icing. I’m reminded an eensy-weensy bit of the 1997 Exclusive Malts Ben Nevis 17-Year-Old. The band remained stable enough to record If I Should Fall from Grace with God with its Christmas hit duet with Kirsty MacColl " Fairytale of New York". "Fairytale of New York" was released as a single in 1987 and reached No.1 in the Irish charts and No.2 in the British charts over Christmas (the time of peak sales). The song has become a festive classic in the UK and Ireland over the years, and was voted the best Christmas song of all time three years running in 2004, [27] 2005, [28] and 2006 in polls by music channel VH1 UK, despite not achieving Christmas Number One when it was released. It was also voted as the 27th greatest song never to reach UK#1 in another VH1 poll, and also voted as the 84th greatest song of all time by BBC Radio 2 listeners in the "Sold on Song" top 100 poll. In 2007 the record was briefly censored by the BBC because of the word "faggot" being deemed potentially offensive to homosexual people. Following protests from listeners, including the mother of Kirsty MacColl, the censorship was lifted.Well balanced, medium body and a polished, almost oily, feel. The wine blossoms into a rich Chardonnay that gives a bit of depth, although maybe not enough to account for all the years it could have been maturing. Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). The band played London pubs and clubs, [24] and released a single, " Dark Streets of London", [25] on their own, self-named label, gaining a small reputation – especially for their live performances, and national airplay on BBC Radio 1. They came to the attention of the media and Stiff Records when they opened for The Clash on their 1984 tour. [19] Shortening their name to The Pogues (partly due to BBC censorship following complaints from Gaelic speakers in Scotland) they released their first album, Red Roses for Me, on Stiff Records that October.

While often labelled as variously "Anglo-Irish", "Hiberno-English" or simply "Irish", amongst others, [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] the band has described itself as "all English" in interviews [6] and band members such as Jem Finer and Philip Chevron, once the band's only Irish-born member, objected [7] to the "Irish" label to describe the band; [8] [9] James Fearnley refers to the band as "for the most part English". [10] The band has faced accusations of cultural appropriation or insensitivity as an English band playing traditionally Irish music. [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] With the departure of Shane MacGowan in 1996, Darryl Hunt explained that, with the loss of the band's only founding member with Irish heritage, the Pogues "respected [...] everybody's culture" and took "energy and ideas" from Irish music as well as elsewhere. [16] The linger is not the longest but certainly rounds off well, with the sweetness of honey and the malted barley coming through.

In the end my love for the band won me over and I kept an mind open while tasting this 50/50 blend of Irish Single Malt and grain whiskey. I’m happy to say that I did not have to yell “Whiskey You’re The Devil” while pouring it down Hell’s Ditch on a Tuesday Morning. While I don’t think The Pogues Irish Whiskey lives up the distiller’s goal of creating a whiskey with “as much character as the band itself” it does manage to keep me on The Sunnyside Of The Street. Retrieved 14 July 2011.The Pogues Irish Whiskey is supposedly the “highest malt-containing blended Irish whiskey, with 50% grain and 50% single malt” which, as we’ll see in the review, would definitely explain the richness of character I found in this whiskey. A 50/50 blend is incredibly high even in Scotland and so if any blended Irish Whiskey deserves the title of being rare it’s certainly this one. English Heart". IMRO. 8 April 2011.
