However, it is a tested & proven workhorse that's been known to last for well over a decade without the need for a single service. One top-notch model from the brand is the Luminox Atacama Adventurer Field Ref. XL.1761. Hailing from the Luminox Atacama Field collection, this is a robust field watch that shows off a very understated and sleek charm. Yes, these SNKs and other Seiko 5s do offer a great opportunity for some spiffy "minimalist" mods on the cheap. The Seiko SNK805/807/809 is pretty basic, but it's still a great entry into the mechanical watch world. The recently released Seiko 5 Sports field watches (Seiko 5 SRPGXX) feature an obviously slightly distinct design from the SRPH’s pilot watches.

For the watch collectors with many other watches, this may mean the SRPH29 is overlooked. For the Seiko fanboys – this may not be the SNK809 alternative we’ve all been waiting for. For someone just looking for a great-looking and affordable pilot watch, however, this may be just the watch for you!When it comes to field watches, Luminox and Victorinox are some of the best brands to start with. However, while they do dominate the field watch market, there are some top-notch military watches that can be found under brands too. One great example would be Seiko’s SNK803.

My summer style is quite minimal, but you’ll always find me with a watch on my wrist, usually with some sort of canvas or nato strap. The SNK803’s default beige strap is quite hideous when paired with the beige dial in my opinion, it just looks washed out and bland overall. But the magic is in the style swap. Swap it with a brown leather strap for a more classy aesthetic. Or you can throw a light olive, leather nato strap on it for some subtle contrast, keeping an earth tone vibe. Complimenting the new, larger watch dimensions, are a new, beefier handset. Unfortunately, they look a bit disproportionate and maybe could have been a bit longer to fill out the larger dial better. I also would have preferred if Seiko kept them painted all-white as they did on the SNK809. This is but a mere personal preference and neither a pro nor a con.
