I know many would dissaprove of this but I would rather he learnt things from me than the playground. we lived in a muslim country (dubai)for a few years and my dd is far better adjusted to the rights/rolls/ freedoms of women here than she was there. We have been told all week that Simon Cowell's show raked in millions of pounds per second in advertising revenue - I think he (or X Factor, whatever) should be heavily fined for showing this completely unsuitable nonsense before the watershed and during 'peak' viewing time for ITV.

I don't think saying 'Well it's not as bad as Saudi Arabia, so it must be ok,' is much of an argument really. I opened up a debate with my 8 year old about who should/should not win and suitably distracted her. They need to be heard, seen, and known past their exterior defense so their deeper needs can be met. I, too, have been making comparisons with strict regimes such as in muslim countries where there is still vast amounts domestic violence/rape/exploitation of women.
