It's pretty interesting to see a comic take on an issue like drinking and do it in a way that feels organic to the plot. and that the one and a half issues that ACTUALLY deal with the "demon in the bottle" (sure there is foreshadowing, but to describe this collection as a whole as dealing with alcoholism is just plain false) were emotionally gripping and character-enriching. Pushed to the edge by his army of super villains, Tony Stark must find a way to stop Hammer and combat his own personal demons. There are a lot of coincidences throughout this that just happen randomly like how does Hammer know Tony's underwater or does he know that he's got his hand on a fat man.

It is in this storyline that the Tony Stark character was given the deep human elements that will make him timeless. Beth admits that she was younger, and didn't try to understand his insecurities, but now she's grown and will not abandon Stark like she abandoned Alex. One last note about this collection: there are golden nuggets of the larger Marvel universe thrown in here and there throughout the story.

This is one of the most famous Iron Man stories ever written for many people and the crazy thing is that the thing it is most known for and justly remembered for stays in the background until the superheroics is out of the way. By the mid-‘90s Tony was actively going to Alcoholics Anonymous, and later became a sponsor for Carol Danvers. The story, other than alcoholism, tackles issues like the overpopulation of cities and the pollution of the environment. From the boardroom to the battlefield, Iron Man faces a foe like never before in the form of criminal industrialist Justin Hammer. She tells Stark that he is becoming his own worst enemy, and he must open up to and let his friends help him, otherwise he'll keep drinking and drinking until it kills him.

On the other hand, it seems like a big enough issue to deal with over the course of a longer format. Because it came out as a monthly comic back in the late 70s, in almost every issue they need to give a short recap of the things that happened in the previous issues. Hailstone said Romita's artwork is "as good as anything in his long career," and concluded that "while it might not deal with the consequences of addiction in the same powerful ways as films like French Connection II—this is a comic, after all—having re-read the tale almost 20 years on, it holds up amazingly well. This story really helped people overcome their own addictions, or understand people close to them that have an addiction themselves. Hammer escapes, and Iron Man flies into the air and crashes down, damaging the island and causing it to sink. Iron Man faces his most untouchable foe in criminal industrialist Justin Hammer and his literal army of super-villains! Latta of Pulp and Dagger praised Michelinie for "deliver[ing] smart writing and plausible, grown up characters that are a pleasure to read and a rich tapestry of plot threads" and "avoid[ing] the preachy, holier-than-thou route, and instead just tell[ing] a story that happens to concern a costumed super-hero getting a little. But can the Armored Avenger overcome an even more implacable personal demon, invulnerable to technology or wealth?

It's the first Iron Man comic I've ever read and I believe that it's a great place to start with the characters, because it dedicates an entire issue in retelling Iron Man's origin. A brilliant tale for Iron Man fans, and a must read for anyone even remotely interested in the man, the suit, or the mythos. I read the comics presented in this compilation over 30 years ago so it was a pleasure to re-discover this beautiful story arc. While the issue seemed resolved, Tony’s struggle with alcoholism became a reoccurring problem, which gave it a layer of veracity the original storyline didn’t quite have.

A comparison of this collection with his recent work on Spider-Man clearly shows the elements of his style that he's kept, developed, or discarded. What I didn't realize is that it's mainly the one issue (the last in this collection) that deals with it. All'epoca la storia fece furore: era decisamente un passo importante nel concetto Marvel di super eroe con super problema. The story opens with Iron Man and Namor teaming up against Roxxon Oil, an evil petroleum conglomerate in the Marvel universe. Really like this but wish the more modern fictive techniques could have been used to illustrate that Tony’s drinking was responsible for his downfall rather than it be a side effect.I've seen a lot of comics address addiction issues through sidekicks and friends of sidekicks, so it's great to see Marvel had the guts to use one of their biggest stars. Este tomo recopila 9 revistas de la colección del personaje, historias que llevan al mítico "Demonio en una botella". Tony Stark being a recovering alcoholic is a very big part of the character in the modern day and it is something that I think is one of the most interesting twist on a character like this. It's a bit heavy-handed, sure, and full of the flaws that all socially-conscious comic books of the 1970s had, but it's a solid story with surprisingly subtle characterization and a truly kickass female lead (where has Bethany Cabe gone in the comics? Iron Man and Namor team up to fight and defeat the soldiers, who escape and trigger explosives contained on the island, destroying it along with any evidence that they were ever there.
