Shattered Vow gave me romantic and angsty X-Men vibes, except that instead of going to a school for gifted youngsters, these kids were born and raised in a creepy military facility and forced to undergo rigorous, brutal training aimed to turn them into weapons. Growing up, the six kids—Riva and her guys—form a very tight bond and dream of escape, but once they try, things go horribly wrong. Riva is separated from the group, and four years later, when she’s finally able to escape and save the guys, they believe her to be a traitor. When she is not spending time with friends and family or writing, she usually loves to call people just to talk. If she cannot find someone to swap stories with on the phone she can be found watching trashy shows on TV or reading romances. The world building continues to focus on the friendships and relationships of the former Special Forces soldiers: their struggle to move forward as the ghosts from the past continue to haunt their days and nights.

Thrive” by Shain Rose is another interesting friends-to-lovers romance in the Stonewood Brothers series of novels that can be read as a standalone. They have formed a strong friendship and have beaten tougher odds before. But neither of them can forget that kiss as they barrel toward either disaster or love. Rose published “Inevitable” her debut novel in 2020 and has since then become quite the author with more than half a dozen works to her name across several series of novels.I knew this was going to be a bit of a tumultuous read. Between Survivors Guilt, unrequited love and trying to protect Molly, you know Jase was never going to have it easy.

I was immediately hooked, it started with action and kept going with a fast pace that kept me entertained. I always like when the first book in a series is fast paced! SHATTERED VOW is my first book by Eva Chase, but it definitely won’t be the last! If you’re a fan of X-Men but also can’t get enough of romance, I highly recommend this book, and also find it perfect for both veterans and newbies to reverse harem thanks to its slow-burn/forced proximity dynamic. SHATTERED VOWS is a story of grief and loss, friendships and love, struggle and battling demons from the past. The premise is intriguing and engaging; the characters are colourful, charismatic and spirited; the romance is captivating and seductive. SHATTERED VOWS is a sexy, sensitive and edgy story of second chances and HEA.

This is the first in a series, with book 3 coming out in February 2023. While it is a romance read, it is not spicy. It is very slow burn and the only sexy scene occurs much later towards the end of the book. I am not usually a bully romance reader. I tend to stay away from them as much as possible, because I am just not a fan. I will say, I did still enjoy this book. I had hoped for something a little more grander than the incident that kind of set everyone straight again. I thought Jacob's treatment of Riva for majority of the book was too much and felt forced. Even with this, I still enjoyed the book. I really liked Riva's character. She was very strong and put up with a lot of shit from these guys without ever faltering. The one sex scene that occurs was okay, I wouldn't say it was the spiciest I have ever read, but was written well. I wish there was a little more information on the "marking" that happened, but maybe it comes in a later book, since at that point in the story, the characters still did not know what they truly were.
