Honestly, it’s not awful or even really bad, it’s just noticeable in one small spot where water really hits it, but it doesn’t ruin the bathroom at all. I was struggling with how to work with or totally change the tile floors in my bathroom, and was reluctantly leaning towards painting the tile completely.

We also used black grout with white subway tile in the guest bathroom at our first investment house. Today I am going to go over the good and bad about black grout and how to care for it if you do have it. The answer to this question will be a total personal preference and depends on what you like in your space and the look you’re going for. The subway tile we chose for our shiplap bathroom renovation was incredibly cheap, and in my opinion, pairing it with anything but a darker shade of grout would have just made it look too plain.There are many grout color options that would work well with gray, but the most popular and best looking combinations are white, light gray, dark gray or charcoal, and a blue gray. After using it on walls, floors, and in the shower, I wanted to share our experience with it, including all things good and bad. I stopped myself and thought I’d see what a good scrubbing did to brighten the tile and grout, and then realized the grout I thought was simply filthy was just dark grout that was bringing the whole room down. And don’t go thinking that black grout will solve your dirt problems either, as we learned this the hard way when we went with subway tile with dark grout for our bathroom makeover. We chose this beautiful gray tile in our kids bathroom remodel and honestly the grout color to use really stumped me for a while. Update (NOV 22) Now that I’ve finally found a great way to clean my grout, I’m stretching out the amount of time in between professional cleanings considerably. Grout is like a sponge and will take in all things that it comes into contact with unless it is properly sealed, and even then, it’s been our experience that it does require on going maintenance and choosing a grout sealer that stands the test of time.
