These shoes are true to size (I wear a UK 4, same as Nike and Adidas) and I love the light grey and mauve colourway with a pop of bright yellow. And, as always, you can count on Under Armour’s signature durability. I’ve had mine for months, and the outsole rubber shows only minimal wear. While it’s not a supremely bouncy trainer, it has plenty of cushioning and staying power for daily training runs.

All UA HOVR™ series shoes have a pod embedded in the midsole of the right shoe which, by the way, you can’t feel at all. The pod connects the shoe through Bluetooth to UA’s own MapMyRun app. I’ve been using this app for over a year now and before its discovery, I was using the Nike Run Club (NRC) app for YEARS. My opinion of MapMyRun was formed based on my long-term experience using the NRC app. Bluetooth can be hit or miss at times, but my experience connecting the shoes was very seamless. Connecting the shoes took only a few taps on my iPhone and they were connected in less than a minute. The biggest takeaway here is understanding your foot type and preferences before choosing a shoe model. Select “Search for shoe” to begin the Bluetooth scan. You will then be prompted to lay your shoe on one side or gently move it to let the sensor be recognised by the app. When choosing runner’s shoes, there are a few key things to bear in mind. First is gender – men’s and women’s running shoes are designed for musculoskeletal differences in stride, weight and foot shape.The second I took the Sonic 3s out of the box, I knew I’d like them. The shoe felt light (close to the Velociti 2s) and when I tried them on, they did have a bit more cushioning but not too much. UA describes the Sonic 3s as “light as a tempo shoe, but with more cushioning”, ideal for “runners who like distance but want more flexibility.” The shoes fit snug, but are widened in the toe box to allow for toe movement. The material around the ankle is thin, the cushioning When you slip on this shoe and experience that upper for the first time, the auxetic material has a noticeably stretchy feel, which extends to areas around the tongue. Once your foot is in, it does really hug around it. The outsole of the HOVR Mega 2 Clone is very durable and built to stand the test of time. It features a textured lug pattern that provides plenty of traction, allowing you to run across a variety of hard surfaces with complete confidence. It only takes a couple minute to complete the sync up. That’s it, you’re all set! Benefits of pairing your shoes and using MapMyRun The Sonic 3s are a newer, upgraded version of the Sonic 2. From first glance, it may appear that there were just minor upgrades from the Sonic 3s, but in my opinion, I think these are a completely different type of shoe. As previously mentioned, the 2s felt more like your everyday running shoe, whereas the Sonic 3s have much more arch support, and a firmer body while still maintaining comfort (and that light-wight feel). Overall, more ideal for running longer distances.

The Machinas and Infinite series are heavier shoes with a bit too much cushioning for my foot type and personal preference. However, I do still wear the Machinas and Infinites on occasion but can only manage to run 5 miles or less before the shoes start to hurt my feet. Both shoes form the perfect partnership and would be a great choice if you’re looking a racing and training shoe combination to suit all of your running needs.Other brands, like Asics, New Balance, and Hoka, use different midsole materials that create a similarly soft, pillowy feel. Generally speaking, you won’t get that sensation with Under Armour shoes.
