I fell immediately in love with both of our main characters. Ivy is so sassy, she has a take no shit attitude, she does what she needs to do to get by in this book and is never once ashamed of being herself. Ivy was kind of annoying to me. I understood she went through hell and she is survivor. But I just did not like her character. Every time Aiden would try to help her, she would just turn him down and continuously question why he wanted to help her. And to some extent I understood why she was like that, but it got annoying at some parts and I just did not like her that much. Aiden was okay, I guess I liked him a more than Ivy but not by much. He was very sweet and selfless, but he was a bit pushy. I understand in some ways Ivy needed him to be a bit pushy, but it was just another thing that annoyed me. I expected this reception," said the dæmon. "All men hate the wretched; how, then, must I be hated, who am miserable beyond all living things! Yet you, my creator, detest and spurn me, thy creature, to whom thou art bound by ties only dissoluble by the annihilation of one of us. You purpose to kill me. How dare you sport thus with life? Do your duty towards me, and I will do mine towards you and the rest of mankind. If you will comply with my conditions, I will leave them and you at peace; but if you refuse, I will glut the maw of death, until it be satiated with the blood of your remaining friends." How can I move thee? Will no entreaties cause thee to turn a favourable eye upon thy creature, who implores thy goodness and compassion? Believe me, Frankenstein, I was benevolent; my soul glowed with love and humanity; but am I not alone, miserably alone? You, my creator, abhor me; what hope can I gather from your fellow creatures, who owe me nothing? They spurn and hate me. The desert mountains and dreary glaciers are my refuge. I have wandered here many days; the caves of ice, which I only do not fear, are a dwelling to me, and the only one which man does not grudge. These bleak skies I hail, for they are kinder to me than your fellow beings. If the multitude of mankind knew of my existence, they would do as you do, and arm themselves for my destruction. Shall I not then hate them who abhor me? I will keep no terms with my enemies. I am miserable, and they shall share my wretchedness. Yet it is in your power to recompense me, and deliver them from an evil which it only remains for you to make so great, that not only you and your family, but thousands of others, shall be swallowed up in the whirlwinds of its rage. Let your compassion be moved, and do not disdain me. Listen to my tale; when you have heard that, abandon or commiserate me, as you shall judge that I deserve. But hear me. The guilty are allowed, by human laws, bloody as they are, to speak in their own defence before they are condemned. Listen to me, Frankenstein. You accuse me of murder, and yet you would, with a satisfied conscience, destroy your own creature. Oh, praise the eternal justice of man! Yet I ask you not to spare me; listen to me, and then, if you can, and if you will, destroy the work of your hands." Our hero had me melting and swooning like there was no tomorrow, he was perfection. A breath of fresh air. These two just made sense together. He was her pillar of strength even when she didn't need it, she was his strength to keep him fighting for what he wanted. Even as a young chid he always tried to protect Ivy and made sure she had somewhere to go when things were tough at home. To see that carry through as an adult was so good to see.

I grin to myself and pass the man his change, coffee, and bag of pastries before turning to her. “Whatever. And he’s just another customer, so chill.”I can do it,” Elena, or Lena as I call her, offers, sipping on some disgusting concoction that only she drinks.

i started getting annoyed at how repetitive it got between ivy and aiden with her pushing him away and him pushing her into confiding in him. it was a lot of pushing and there wasnt really a balance this book was pretty good. the first half had me hooked for sure but then the second half was… kind of a turn off?? it was just repetitive and boring tbh and bad. its like 2-3 star but im feeling generous so it can have a 3 Blurb: “When Skylar Allen decided to move across the country for college, she thought it'd be the perfect chance to reinvent herself. But then one party changed the course of her entire freshman year. To be fair a lot of the side characters in this were very likeable and I wanted to know more about them. Sky's family was so irritating, but I kind of grew to like them. Speaking of Daniel/DJ—in book one, we met him as DJ because that’s what his friends and the guys on the football team call him—he’s such a charmer. We saw him through Aiden and Ivy’s eyes in the first book, but nothing could have prepared me for just how wonderful he would be when he got to really put himself out there. A flirt and a charmer, DJ is the wide receiver for the Linden University football team. He’s handsome, popular and all round great. All the girls want DJ and all the guys either want to be him or be his friend. DJ is your typical big man on campus, but at the same time, he’s a soft teddy bear. Other than Caleb, DJ might be my favourite of the football guys but I’m definitely curious to see what the others might get upto.In Lindon, everyone knows everyone even though the college brings in over three thousand students each semester. It’s what I imagine a real-life Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girls would feel like if it were a small city. The customers who come in the bakery always have a new slice of gossip to share, and you’re never safe from being one of the topics. This Dare You to Hate Me excerpt introduces you to Aiden and Ivy, and will have you hooked from chapter one!

Ivy,” he repeats, and I wonder if he can hear how hard my heart thumps with the sound of my name coming from his lips again. It makes no sense to me why a player so sought after would be at a school like Lindon. We’re not Division I. If anything, we’re the misfit college—once thriving, now barely making ends meet if not for the championships the football team wins. I’ve heard people say that athletes who blow it at other schools come here to redeem themselves. Some of them make a future for themselves in the pros after their second chance, and others fizzle out.

I definitely recommend this book if you're looking for a friends to lovers, YA romance with a little bit of darkness. This is book 2 in the Lindon U series and it's DJ and Skylar's story. You don't have to have read book one, but it does help with the side characters. Four years later, fate is bringing them on each other's path for once again and things are getting complicated... Aiden and Ivy used to be best friends, that is until life came in between. Ivy asked Aiden to run away with him but he could not because of his other responsibilities. So they both seperated. Now years later they meet again and nothing is like before.
