The zoom isn’t very big, meaning you can’t capture animals which are far away and will have limitations capturing smaller animals like birds Additionally, with Kinesis and LensCoat, they offer a range of options at different sizes and price points to suit most camera setups. For me, the only instance that the monopod was even remotely more useful than a bean bag was on a night safari. This was because you have to be so fast in snapping a photo of an animal before it runs away that you wouldn't even have time to move the bean bag at all. The amount of time from your spotter finding an animal to it running out of view can be seconds at best, and you will likely have no advanced warning in the form of other cars nearby to give you a heads up something is coming in the event you need to switch sides.

The H shaped design of the Grippa Bag allows it to grip the door instead of sagging like a standard bean bag. It can even grip the window glass allowing the camera height to be altered by winding the window up and down. It is a great improvement on a standard beanbag. Thus, one of the most effective blinds from which to photograph can be your car which allows you to approach much closer than if you are outside walking. Taking photos of wildlife often involves using long lenses and of course, keeping them steady is critical. However, a tripod just isn’t handy or convenient when you are sitting in a car, so what to do then? Well, an indispensible tool in your kit is a bean bag. A strap or cord can definitely be handy as you can use it to secure the bean bag when in use. Water proofing can also be helpful if you think you will be shooting in wet environments. The 0.75kg bag is small and easy to carry with your daily gear, ready for any occasion to keep the camera in. The red capsule is closed with a strong Velcro closure that can be opened and closed as many times as needed.

If there’s a certain shot or composition that you want, it’s a good idea to let your guide know so you have a better chance of seeing it. Whilst there’s never a guarantee of seeing any wildlife on safari, if you specify that you want a shot of an elephant bathing for example, then your guide should have an idea of where the best places to get that shot might be on your trip. This can also affect your ability to get the photos you may want in terms of timing and views from the vehicle. With just one or two people in a vehicle, it is generally easy to find a good view, but once you have 4 or more people, it often becomes difficult for everyone to have a great view all at the same time, especially if an animal is not in an open area.

Photography involves a number of skills. The first two are in the field when you’re getting the shot, and require you to know how to compose a great photo and how to use your camera. Before you go, I recommend testing and cleaning the camera yourself to make sure it’s working. You’ll also want to make sure all the gear from your lenses to your camera straps are in good shape before your trip. Your trip is not a good time to learn about a preexisting scratch in your lens, a corrupted memory card, a fraying strap or a battery that doesn’t hold its charge!

Other special features might include special camera mounts, tripod mounts, the ability to fully open or remove windows, and even the ability to remove a door or two. I wouldn’t expect most of these features unless you are paying extra for a special photography trip. Designed for use with or without a built-in 3/8 “tripod or head mount. The Puf Movo Photo THB03 is designed for digital SLR cameras with lenses less than 800mm. Before ending this one, we would be remiss if we didn't discuss a few more tips on buying and using a camera bean bag.

In this article, I will tell you how they work, why you might want one, important features to look for in a photography bean bag, and give some recommendations on some of the best photography bean bags for safari. The disadvantage of its tripod over a regular one is you can’t angle your camera for vertical photos. The simple flatter cushion-like shape can prove to be quite versatile, especially when shooting on the roof of a vehicle or from the floor. Personally I find it a bit less practical for safari use as it doesn’t mold to a vehicle window or door area as well as the other options. I have a Nikon d600 with a 24mm prime lens and the 28-300 kit lens. I would like a lens for wildlife photography. The larger and more professional Canon EOS R5 mirrorless camera paired with a 100-400mm lens is still able to get a very usable image, even at 10,000 ISO.
