Customer reviews

Author and illustrator Frédéric Delavier is known across the world for his signature artwork and books that have been translated into over 30 languages. Now he offers you the most comprehensive edition of his master work yet with Strength Training Anatomy, Fourth Edition. Like having an X-ray for each exercise, the anatomical depictions show both superficial and deep layers and detail how various setup positions affect muscle recruitment and emphasize underlying structures. New to this edition are stretching exercises, safety and injury callouts, and training recommendations based on body morphology.

Undoubtedly, Delavier is a gifted artist with an exceptional knowledge of human anatomy. Many health and fitness books explain what muscles are used during exercise, but no other resources bring the anatomy to life like Strength Training Anatomy. This book is expertly drawn illustrations (over 600) that reveal the primary muscles worked along with all the relevant surroundings structures, including bones, ligaments, tendons, and connective tissue. The major muscles of body parts being worked are colored in red and clearly labeled. The bones, muscle fibers and muscular attachments are also beautifully illustrated. The Strength Training Anatomy Workout, Volume II, is your guide to serious muscle development. Inside you’ll learn the best exercises for building up and strengthening each muscle; how to determine weights, repetitions, and frequency; and strategies for accelerating recovery. Michael Gundill has written 13 books on strength training, sport nutrition, and health including co-authoring The Strength Training Anatomy Workout. His books have been translated into multiple languages, and he has written over 500 articles for bodybuilding and fitness magazines worldwide, including Iron Man and Dirty Dieting. In 1998 he won the Article of the Year Award at the Fourth Academy of Bodybuilding Fitness & Sports Awards in California. Over two million people have turned to Strength Training Anatomy for an inside look at how the body performs during exercise. Now with new exercises, stretches, and exercise variations, and with more of Frédéric Delavier’s signature art, the fourth edition of this classic work sets the standard by which all other strength training resources will be judged.Over 500 full-color photos and 485 full-color illustrations allow you to go inside 60 exercises, 19 stretches, and 9 programmed workouts to see how muscles interact with surrounding joints and skeletal structures and how variations, progressions, and sequencing can affect muscle recruitment, the underlying structures, and ultimately the results. The Strength Training Anatomy Workout III is loaded with 146 of Delavier’s unparalleled illustrations and 195 photos depicting proper exercise technique and highlighting how muscles interact with surrounding joints and skeletal structures. Exercise descriptions include technique, explanation of muscle engagement and interactions, variations, benefits, limitations, and safety considerations. You’ll assemble these exercises into advanced programs for long-term strength and muscle development. Break past your training plateaus with high-tech strength training protocols like electrical stimulation, blood flow restriction, and vibration and oscillation training. Avoid injury and muscle fatigue with advanced strategies that promote nerve, tendon, and joint recovery.

All the primary and secondary barbell and dumbbell exercises are included along with some stretches for major muscle groups. There are also useful machine and cable exercises are mentioned throughout the book.

Frédéric Delavier

The author also talks about common injuries and things to avoid while performing an exercise for certain muscle groups. Additionally, since it references the common exercises for all muscle groups, if one does not know how to exercise targeting a muscle group, they can just look it up in this book instead of googling and getting overwhelmed by hundreds of different exercises with thousands of variations with no explanation why people are doing the same thing a million different way.
