Description

Monkey Puzzle is also one of the stories included in the show “Tiddler and Other Terrific Tales” by Freckle Productions, which frequently tours the UK. You could use the story to talk about different animals, introduce some mathematics by counting each animals’ legs or do some biology and talk about metamorphosis and the lifecycle of a butterfly. Monkey Puzzle" has gained widespread popularity among young readers and their caregivers due to its engaging storyline, captivating illustrations, and valuable life lessons. This prompted me to unearth some plays I’d written for a school reading group, and since then I’ve had 20 plays published. If you don’t own a copy it is a great addition to your bookshelves at this time of year as Mother’s Day approaches and it is also a fantastic story to read in the Spring as an introduction to the lifecycle of a butterfly.

Could you make up another page for the book, in which the monkey gives a clue to the butterfly, and the butterfly finds an animal who might be the monkey’s mum? I hope that the treasure trove of books and activities allows you to take away a new gem, or a nugget that inspires you. Despite the butterfly's best efforts, these misidentifications lead to humorous interactions and highlight the differences between various jungle inhabitants. It also had a lovely link that although many babies look like their mum/dad, the butterfly's children are caterpillars. I studied Drama and French at Bristol University, where I met Malcolm, a guitar-playing medic to whom I’m now married.

You will find Julia Donaldson’s brilliant rhymes and Axel Scheffler’s wonderful illustrations along with repetition, clues, jungle animals and a great big hug.

Axel Scheffler's distinctive illustrations bring the characters and settings of "Monkey Puzzle" to life. With its relatable characters and whimsical narrative, the book has become a staple in children's literature. My daughter is 11 months old and we have been reading this book multiple, multiple times a day for weeks. declares the monkey 'bigger than me' and using this information the butterfly takes the monkey to an elephant. Poor Butterfly keeps finding animals that fit the little monkey’s description but they aren’t quite right. I can’t imagine that anyone other than Axel could have given such character and humour to the animals which the butterfly mistakes for the monkey’s mum.

and, of course, it has a very happy ending with little monkey, in her arms, exclaiming delightfully, 'Mum! This is an endearing story about a monkey who loses his Mum and is helped by a butterfly to try and find her. This reinforces the importance of friendship, teamwork, and the enduring connection between loved ones. What a great combination Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler are and they continue their superb partnership with 'Monkey Puzzle' in which a little monkey loses his Mum. Confusion unfolds as the butterfly uses only the most immediate piece of information when looking for the monkey's mum, for example 'She's big! This story was accepted by the publisher at the same time as The Gruffalo, and at first they thought they might find a different illustrator for it. We love this book too, such a great rhyming structure to it and as always the illustrations are lovely! You could also explore language together by describing each other or thinking of a better description for little monkey’s mum.Little monkey has lost his mum but a passing butterfly tells him that she will help him to find her.
