Description

It has the subtle smoke characteristic of Jura's excellent Island single malts, with robust vanilla and an intense kick of sherried sweetness underneath. Additionally, regional characteristics such as climate, water source, and local traditions contribute to a diverse range of flavor profiles for single malt enthusiasts to explore. Aged in American oak barrels for hints of sweetness and vanilla on the finish, this single malt is sure to delight all whisky lovers. Sweet and balanced on the palate without smoke for me, and on the finish a delightful apple, with crumble. The whisky was laid down in a single Refill Hogshead, patiently maturing for 30 years, before being bottled in Febuary 2023.

Matured in American white oak ex-bourbon and hand selected American Rye barrels, the casks deliver depth and complexity to this 14 year old Single Malt with layered spice, aromatic, herbal and floral qualities. As though someone has taken the flavour concentrate of a Highland whisky and added it to some colouring and a very immature light yellow whisky. The new distillery's architect was William Delmé-Evans, who had previously been involved with Tullibardine and later went on to build Glenallachie. The new distillery was producing malt more akin to the Highland style rather than the heavily-peated whisky of near-neighbours Islay, a strategy that has continued to bear fruit for Jura (although more experimental peated bottlings from the late 1990s are now finding their way to market, to some acclaim). Inspired by our history and our island home, our whiskies reflect the unwavering passion and tenacity of the islanders, so it tastes distinctively better because it matters more to those who make it.

While we have taken care in preparing this summary and believe it to be accurate, it is not a substitute for reading the product packaging and label prior to use. Finish Still fruity, the woody spice picks up with prickles of warming pepper, balanced by sweet, nutty caramel. With less than 200 people living on the island, it's at the heart of their community and sits in the middle of Craighouse, the island's biggest town. Not sure if anyone else got it but this unmistakable tropical fruit/mango finish with a hint of pepper.

In the event of any safety concerns or for any other information about a product please carefully read any instructions provided on the label or packaging and contact the manufacturer. Palate Oily and subtly spicy at first, before notes of earthy vanilla pod and chocolate-covered raisins develop. The distillery use lightly-peated malt which produces a light whisky with an almost oily taste to it. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The perception that single malt whisky is “better” is subjective, however, it does have the reputation for being the highest quality and is usually more expensive than other whisky. This Jura Rare Vintage, distilled on 11th April 1989, captures the diverse character of our island home. Some of the tallest stills of any island distillery are used to distil the spirit, adding to the purity of the whisky.

I initially tried this neat and the nose was smokey with a sweetness not unlike peat, a little bit of water allowed the chocolate and coffee through as well as hints of ginger and orange with the smoke more in the background. The Jura 18 Year Old single malt has been matured in American white oak barrels, and is enriched by time spent in French oak wine casks from a Premier Grand Cru Classe Bordeaux producer. Our boxes are made of 100% recyclable cardboard and our protective honeycomb paper wrap keeps your package safe and significantly reduces our need for plastic. One of only 285 bottles, this Single Malt from Jura was allowed to mature for 12 years in a single refill hogshead cask. All the flavour notes are there but it feels like they’ve been added as some sort of concentrate and that the whisky is a fiery, youthful one which has had this and colouring added to fool someone. This single malt Island whisky was matured for 19 years in a single ex-Bourbon hogshead, and offers attractive aromas and flavours of shortbread, lemon, and caramel. It really does take a while due to the ever changing flavours which start off full of fruit but then settle into a deeper, pepper taste which compliments the fruit perfectly.

Found a bottle of the old 10 in my dad's cupboard and I prefer the newer version as the tastes are kind of more separated, whereas the old was molded into one. Winding through lush countryside and tracing the shores, it truly is a beautifully scenic route to our distillery. Light peat, brown sugar and orange on the nose leads to smooth burnt toffee taste, with softer citrus and coffee on the finish. Proper Scottish porridge – a pinch of salt and rich oats – stirred through with a spoon of decadently sweet Strawberry jam and sprinkled with raisins. I too was not sure at first but soon realised that this has a lot to offer in terms of smell and taste and has a fairly long finish.
