I know it's sad and tragic and horrible but sometimes I just want to laugh a little when Mo Ran is ranting about his hate toward Chu Wanning, when it's obvious he cares about him, and he did even then, no matter how insignificant that care was. WARNING: This Review will include mentions or talk about talk about most subjects present in the book, including but not limited to rape, abuse, NSFW/sexual scenes and so on so forth, probably not extensively or in detail but I will talk about them nevertheless. As he uncovers a series of mysteries related to his past life as the lines between past and present blur, Mo Ran begins to see himself and his Shizun in a different light. Maybe if this novel was written mostly from Chu Wanning's point of view, it wouldn't have such high reviews. If the author wanted to make us believe that Mo Ran was sorry they wouldn't have shown him getting turned on while reminiscing about him raping his shizun.

The only flaw in the emotional investment department is perhaps a bit too much backstorying with side characters that don’t warrant it, and giving a few too many mini arcs that pad out the length while distracting from the main focus. In fact, I knew I should have guarded my heart, but like a fool, I bore through the wind and rain, shed sweat and cried blood before delivering my beating organ on a silver platter to meatbun (author). Believe me, I /really/ tried to like this novel but it just ended up being disappointing on so many accounts. At first he thought, dogs should be with dogs, like his shixiong, beautiful and tame like a cute Japanese Spitz, and the two of them together would surely be a match made in heaven. I can't help but think that if Chu Wanning didn't do any of the kind things he did such as making him wontons (even if he still wasn't as bad as Mo Ran thought he was) and that Shimei really was a good person, MC would have no guilt in what he'd done to ML and felt justified that r*pe and torture was a just punishment.Those who have not been reincarnation dilution of persistence, always in the long life, get love again and again embrace. After coming back to life, truth after truth that had been hidden below the surface in the previous life floated to the top and broke through the waters one after the other.

But after he betters himself as a person, he beautifully and sublimely respects Wanning, and their developing relationship afterwards is truly wholesome, between Wanning learning to accept that he can, in fact, be loved despite his flaws and his unbecoming temper and Mo Ran discovering that Wanning is probs the most adorable person ever and spoiling him with his favorite food. There are many details that left me wanting more, like the demon vs human relations, the rifts between worlds, and the use of time travel, all of which contributed to the plot and made for a very fun kind of action adventure story.I cant read chinese so I read the translation and they really did a great job on translating this novel. And both of them are involved in the plot of slowly forshadowed danger where the one in the dark used demonic Forbidden techniques once mastered by MoRan in his previous life, giving him a sense of bad premonition. The ideas in the book are well thought through and there’s a good amount of cohesion to the world to set up the plot with.
