This book, like the others before, is perfect for the middle grade audience it is intended for, but any adult reader won’t be the least bit bored if they happen to take a peek between the covers, too. When Heimdall and Hyrrokkin abandon their “children” to go on holiday, Odin sends Baldur – Thor’s half brother and god of making Loki look bad – to babysit. Stowell balances humor with emotional depth, without ever falling into the expositional trope of people simply sitting and talking about their feelings. To make things worse, Fartface Thor is to be the hero of the school play, while Loki has to play the villain. In each book, Loki must face the challenges of any ordinary 11-year-old, and the results are knee-slappingly, tear-inducingly hilarious! Life's tough for trickster god Loki, banished to earth in the body of an eleven-year-old boy with thunder god Thor for company.Definitely one you must have on your bookshelves, Loki: A Bad God’s Guide to Ruling the World is my favourite in the series so far and my wife had to ask me to be quiet when I was reading as I was laughing so hard. When Heimdall and Hyrrokkin abandon their "children" to go on holiday, Odin sends Baldur - Thor's half brother and god of making Loki look bad - to babysit. Loki is the series protagonist - the most chaotic god of Norse mythology, who has been banished to live on earth as a normal child who also has to go to school. She can be pretty picky in her taste in books so when she gets a book she devours like that we know it's a good one. Loki is a character that we just can’t get enough of and in this quirky interpretation, he’s a huge bundle of fun.

Louie Stowel totally gets school children’s humour and I marvel at her whip smart one liners and hilarious situations. Wry, witty and very funny diary-style story packed with doodles and comic strips about the frustration trickster god Lok.

My 11 year old absolutely loves this whole series of Loki stories, the only downside is she's read them all so quickly!

I have come to the conclusion that as a mere mortal, there are things about deities that I would never understand. Perfect for helping kids (and adults) learn more about the nature of envy, empathy and it what it actually means to be.

The Loki series is a real favourite of mine and one I am constantly recommended to children and families as they are accessible to even the most reluctant of readers. There is a fair amount of toilet humour, this time in the form of hamster poo and that is sure to win a lot of children's hearts. This series is the one that convinced my son that reading could be fun […] These books are my 'go to' for recommendations for friends' children. After the drama teacher casts him as the villain in the school play, Loki starts to wonder whether there's any point in being good when everyone seems convinced of his villainy. I often worry he's going to 'age out' he already is disappointed that I have gone from knowing 'everything about star wars and hanging with Max Rebo' to not having seen the latest Mandalorian.
