Philip, as a young man, was a charismatic and courageous warrior, and he was inevitably compared to Alexander the Great.

At seventeen years of age, he joined Plato’s Academy in Athens and remained there until the age of thirty-seven. He also believed that how humans tend to remember things that they have had no experience of in their lifetimes — referred to as the principle of recollection — proves this hypothesis. A large part of the sculpture at the National Roman Museum consists of the bust of famous people from history. Busts from Ancient History T. The owner of the bust, Mark Farley, who gave me a private tour of his jaw-dropping film and TV prop house Farley’s recently, gave me some low down on this striking antique. It is in fact a late 17th Century Italian piece, Heroic (size) white marble and porphyry bust of a philosopher with gilt bronze robes. In ancient art, double herms were a common statue type. While in Greece they were displayed in public rooms, in the Roman empire they were shown in private spaces. [ citation needed] Thus, the combination of the two philosophers here owed something to the personal inclinations of the person who commissioned it, even if it is not clear why these two philosophers were linked in particular. Probably it has to do with the fact that they were both forced to commit suicide. The presentation of philosophers (and poets) as double herms was the most common use of this genre. This parallel presentation is also seen in literature, for example in the Parallel Lives of Plutarch. G. H.
