All of the much-buzzed about changes to the various versions of the film are largely cosmetic (or in the case of the narration, merely the removal of annoyances). To this day I can't watch one without thinking about the other and then weighing the idea of watching both movies together. The first thing I did was watch my favourite movies in that format, which at the time were the Star Wars films, all three of them.

Since Replicants are as intelligent as the scientists who created them, they tend to develop their own special brand of emotions after a few years of life. The film's many shots of the future cityscape of Los Angeles, complete with fire-spewing smoke stacks and enough smog to choke a two pack a day smoker, definitely set an intense mood for the film. He’s standing at the window, and it’s presented at an angle which makes it look horribly aliased, replete with jaggies that had me all set to complain in this section. It’s an early HD disc from 2007 (indeed Blade Runner was also released here on HD-DVD), but the quality of the transfer is hard to fault. It's a remarkable accomplishment and the film's effects still pack an intensely realistic punch to this day. but the part was eventually cut before shooting began), and both actress appear to recount their experiences. The original elements have clearly been rehabbed from the ground up, with a flawless print that has had all dirt and blemishes removed, (which is doubly impressive considering how many optical effects there are in the film). In those years, audiences have been witness to multiple releases, various versions of the film, as well as a fairly definitive restoration effort. This phenomenal Blade Runner set from Warner on Blu-ray sets the new standard for comprehensive special editions. I'll leave it up to the viewer to decide which version of the film is the best, but they all have something to offer.

Details are exquisite, from fine facial features to the intricate cityscape model work, everything is on display for you to pick over and parcel through. The intensity really is just staggering at times, especially with the shots of the external city streets. In a signature role as 21st-century detective Rick Deckard, Harrison Ford brings his masculine-yet-vulnerable presence to this stylish noir thriller.Scott talks at length about his original vision, how it was diluted and challenged by the film's original producers, as well as what led to the 1992 "Director's Cut that isn't really a director's cut," and finally to the 2007 restoration.
