Yes, all Work Sharp tools are designed and assembled in the USA. They design, engineer, and calibrate their sharpening machines all under one roof–also shared by their in-house customer service, sales, and admin teams. How do you use the guided sharpening system? Sharpening Stones: As the name suggests, sharpening stones are exactly that; stones that are used to sharpen a blade. Typically part of or mounted onto a larger set or system, these items sport at least one abrasive side that a blade can be run along to hone its edge. The hone slides along the guide rod easily, and you can set the range of motion with a couple of small rubber stoppers included on the rod. Step 1: Snap the Sharpener Chassis into the Sharpener base. The bottom-front of the Sharpener Chassis goes in first. Then you press down and it should snap into place. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

I only go over the setup to demonstrate how easy it really is when compared to other similar sharpeners. The adjustment knob takes the guesswork out of setting sharpening angles. There’s no table clamp to fiddle with and thanks to the magnetic sharpening rod attachment, the Tri-Brasive stones are a breeze to switch. Speaking of Tri-Brasives, let’s go over what abrasive grits come with the Work Sharp Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener Elite. Tri-Brasive Sharpening Rods, Ingenuity at Its Finest The hone itself has three sides: a 320-grit, 600-grit, and a fine ceramic stone. Simply use a little force and turn the stone to the appropriate sharpening grit. Bench-Top Sharpeners:Also called “tabletop sharpeners,” this is a type of largely non-mobile sharpening system that — as its name suggests — is used on a bench or tabletop. Bench-top sharpeners usually see a knife clamped down before the user selects an angle and then a sharpening stone or steel that’s evenly guided over the blade’s edge via a mound arm (or arms). While usually more expensive, these sharpeners almost always offer extremely precise sharpening, and can even be used to achieve special finishes such as a mirror polish. In fall 2020, Work Sharp jumped into the precision sharpening game with a system that will look somewhat familiar to anyone that’s watched the knife market for a while. Meet the Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener. In addition to his automotive pursuits, Chris's horological inclinations are evident in his work for Calibre Magazine and Vintage Grail. Here, he explores the latest watch releases, trends, and the significance of various vintage timepieces, captivating readers with his knowledge and enthusiasm. While both types of sharpeners are designed to sharpen knives, they differ in how they operate and the results they produce. A precision sharpener is a handheld tool that typically uses a set of diamond abrasive stones or ceramic rods to sharpen a knife. The sharpener holds the blade in place while the user runs the abrasive along the blade at a consistent angle. I have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of owners of the original Precision Adjust love the system, but wish it came with more abrasive options. While the 320, 600, and ceramic grits were adequate in making your knives hair-shaving sharp, I was never happy with the look of my bevels. Show me the Abrasives! Building upon the best-selling Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener™ – The Precision Adjust ELITE™ is an angle adjustable, seven abrasive grit, knife sharpening system that delivers precision and repeatability for the discerning edge enthusiast who wants the best in manual sharpening.

The Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener Mk.2 is a more advanced and versatile sharpener than the original model it replaces. The Mk.2 features a two-speed electric motor, while the Mk.1 had a fixed motor. The angle guide has been redesigned as well. The Mk.1 model had interchangeable guides, while the Mk.2 combines these into a single switchable guide with an up-down toggle. They’ve also added an Edge Guide to the tool, which supports the blade along the full travel from tip to heel for a more stable, even edge. Accessory for the Precision Adjust™ Knife Sharpener (Sharpening base not included)- Take your Precision Adjust™ Sharpener to the next level and get even higher performance! For edge enthusiasts who want the most features to create the sharpest edge possible For stropping and sharpening serrations, you perform the same steps as sharpening the blade but only in a downward motion. This makes sense as you wouldn’t want to cut into the leather strop. I find it really impressive that Work Sharp thought to include a strop. As a big believer in stropping your knives regularly, I’m a fan of this feature. What’s not to like about the Work Sharp Precision Adjust Elite?

Type Of Sharpener: The jumping-off point for any search should always start with determining which type of sharpener you want —an area that can typically be determined based on the knives you plan on sharpening. Once this area is figured out, you can move on to the more nitty-gritty elements of sharpener shopping. Like a genie in a bottle, Work Sharp grants us three wishes in the form of a fine-grit Tri-Brasive, coarse-grit Tri-Brasive, and a strop/serrations sharpener combo. Here are the abrasive grits that come with the Work Sharp Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener Elite: Sharpening angles can be adjusted from 15° to 30° in 1° increments to accommodate a wide range of kitchen, outdoor and EDC knives. Two Tri-Brasive® handles provide five diamond grit plates and a fine ceramic to repair, sharpen, and hone to an incredibly sharp edge. Then the leather strop refines and polishes your edge to scary sharp results. Included ceramic rod hones serrations. Cons: The Work Sharp Precision Adjust Elite is a complete sharpening system, which puts it at a higher price point than the base model version.

Materials: Like any product, the materials used to construct a sharpener will play an enormous role in its overall quality and performance. Unsurprisingly, these items are typically crafted from a combination of metal alloys like steel and aluminum and hard plastics and/or polymers. As with all knife-sharpening tools, I recommend keeping a list of your knives and the angle at which you sharpen them to save time when stropping or re-sharpening in the future. The Work Sharp Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener has a smart, practical design. It starts with a plastic platform you can set on a workbench, table, or desk. On that sits an 8-inch-tall tower that houses a screw system to raise and lower the point at which the sharpening rod attaches to the tower.Chris Van Hoven is a multifaceted writer with a keen interest in technology, watches, and the world of automobiles. When he geeks out about technical details and specifications, his enthusiasm for these subjects is contagious. This review is going to be a twofer. Since I already own the original Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener (non-Elite version), the generous folks at Work Sharp sent over the Upgrade Kit for me to review. Thus, bringing my original Precision Adjust to ELITE status (plus an extra Tri-Brasive). This will primarily be a Work Sharp Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener Elite review, but I will also touch on the Upgrade Kit. Work Sharp Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener Elite Contents Work Sharp Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener Elite – Full Kit Yes, the Work Sharp Precision Adjust Sharpener can sharpen serrated blades. However, you will need the Elite version of the Work Sharp Precision Adjust sharpener since serrated knives require both coarse and fine diamond abrasives to sharpen them. The three hones work well to take a knife from very dull to very sharp. But for most knives, the finest two are sufficient. I find myself using the ceramic hone most of the time, as I try to not let my knives get very dull.
