Half cocktail-with-a-kick, half boozy-pudding, this indulgent treat is ideal for festive parties and cosy winter nights. Often it's something warm - hot chocolate or mulled wine, for example - but if you prefer a cold drink, a snowball is the answer! It originates from a Dutch word and is short for advocatenborrelwhich translates as‘drink that lubricates the throat of a lawyer’ or ‘lawyer’s drink’– it’s deliciously creamy and really rather nice on its own.

It's a creamy winter drink made with Advocaat, and it will get you feeling festive from the inside out. Once cool add to a jug with lots of ice, 50ml of lemon juice and 200ml of soda water, stir well and garnish with a clove studded slice of orange or a cinnamon stick. Remove from the fridge, roll out pastry to 3mm thick and use a round cutter (about 8½cm) to cut out 12 bases and place them into muffin trays. Well, I have another solution that will guarantee you immediately feel warm and merry (in more ways than one) - a snowball cocktail! If your butter does split, try beating in some more sugar and it should come back to a smooth and creamy consistency.
