Once upon a time, not so long ago, ‘oil’ was a dirty word in the skincare universe. After all, isn’t the goal to get rid of the grease on your skin, not add more? But as we started to wise up, and the skincare market took a cue from other countries (hello, Korea), oils became the new hot thing, particularly when it came to cleansing—and for good reason. When making an oil cleanser for dry skin, the key to success is selecting ingredients that help to moisturize the skin and care for the skin’s natural moisture barrier. A grapeseed and lavender oil cleanse provides a complete dry skin treatment. Note that you do this on a dry face, with enough oil to easily massage your face. Also, you really need to give this at least 30 seconds (1 minute is optimal), because this enables the oils to properly dissolve the excess oils, dead skin cells and everything else that should come off your skin. Step 3. COVER THE FACE WITH A WARM/LUKEWARM WASHCLOTH

Nourishing oils are recommended for dry skin," says Dr Phillips. "Shea, argan or camellia oils work to help keep the skin hydrated throughout the day by delivering a healthy dose of moisture across the skin’s surface. Using tea tree oil is not recommended as this can exacerbate dryness." But the foaming agents found in traditional cleansers often do exactly this, causing dryness that increases the chances of angry skin once you apply products with strong active ingredients, like retinol and vitamin C. On top of that, “over-stripping the skin of natural oils may also trigger more oil production by your keratinocytes, the cells that make up your skin,” says Nikhil Dhingra, M.D., board-certified dermatologist at Spring Street Dermatology in New York City. Wong does point out that coconut oil and olive oil are ones to potentially avoid; coconut oil because it can clog pores and olive oil because it’s often processed and this can lead to irritation. Each product and brand is different though, so be sure to do independent research. Lavender essential oil is a useful cleansing agent with both antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. This can help soothe inflamed or irritated skin, reducing redness.

Water-based cleansers work by rinsing away impurities from the outermost layer of skin. They can vary significantly in terms of ingredients, efficacy and harshness. Cream cleanser As an extra treat, give your cleansing oil a helping hand by removing it with a warm, damp, super-soft face cloth. It’ll help whisk away any last traces of oil, will make sure you don’t miss any pesky make-up remains, plus it feels lovely when you have a few extra minutes to spend on your cleanse. For best results, it is important to choose an oil-based cleanser that suits the specific needs of your skin. This will depend largely on how oily your skin is, which varies based on your skin type. Other skin concerns such as acne can also play a role in determining which cleansing oils are right for you. Oily skin A cleansing oil is a product designed to remove makeup, excess oil and other contaminants from the surface of your skin. It helps keep your skin clean and improves your complexion without disrupting your body’s natural balance of oil. Oil-based cleansers Store any remaining oil in a dark and sealable bottle and place in a cool dry area at a temperature of 50°F (10°C). While this cleanse may be effective for several months, it is best used soon after combining. Oil cleanser recipe for combination skin

Time to decipher the dos and don’ts behind how to use cleansing oil, to help it slip easily into your skincare routine. Do: Keep hands and face dry ALTERNATIVE 2– massage the oil onto your face for about 15-20 seconds, until the makeup dissolves, and then wipe it away with one side of your wet washcloth, keeping the other side clean. Then you can take more oil and proceed again from step 2 above, using the clean side of the cloth. This differs from what water-based formulations do and are all the more gentle for it. "As [water-based formulations] contain water as a key ingredient, they remove water-based impurities, such as sweat and dirt from the skin," explains Dr Phillips. According to Dr Shotter, look out for jojoba, argan and marula oils as these can ‘help balance skin’s oil production’. You may also follow with a water-based cleanser if you wish to double cleanse. Vitamin E and sunflower oil benefit the skin and help balance out dry and oily patches," says Dr Phillips. "Vitamin E also helps remove impurities, while maintaining hydration and doesn’t tend to aggravate oily areas of the skin." Also, it is very important that you use a VERY soft washcloth. My favorites are soft cotton cloths you can usually find in Zero waste shops or Etsy. Whether your skincare routine involves one, three or more steps, it could benefit from an upgrade by adding an oil-based cleanser. Why? Because these kind of cleansers do it all, from gently dissolving stubborn, waterproof mascara and make-up to lifting away debris from clogged pores. Post-rinse, your skin will be left feeling soft, dewy and primed for the rest of your beauty regime. Like attracts like, as they say. "Oils are lipophilic, which means they are naturally attracted to other oils, such as the sebum our skin produces and the oil within skincare and make-up products," says Dr Phillips. "The oil in the cleanser helps dissolve natural and external oils, while softening the skin and providing a gentle but deep cleanse." In theory, this process is thought to provide better results than a single cleanse, which must remove impurities and clean the skin. However, there is little evidence to suggest that double cleansing is necessary—for most, a single cleanse should manage both tasks effectively.

In short, ditch the coconut, olive oil and other oils that are either comedogenic or high in oleic acid! Good choices for each skin type:I really apologise that you're having a hard time to find Simple Kind To Skin Hydrating Cleansing Oil. Also, The Simple team would like to assure you that we're still manufacturing the product. Oil-based cleansers are an effective way to remove oil and other unwanted debris from facial skin. They are usually gentler on the skin than other types of cleansers and are suitable for a wide range of skin types. Of note is that many associate an effective cleanse with the bubbly, white lather of water-based cleansers, however oil-based cleansers do not lather up when applied. This does not mean they are less effective. Should You Be Using an Oil-Based Cleanser? DIY oil cleansers are usually made with a blend of oils such as castor oil, jojoba oil and hemp seed oil, and may be supplemented with essential oils. Benefits of Oil Cleansing If you want to get rid of more oil from your face, wipe it off gently with the cloth. No rubbing! There will still be a very thin layer of oil, and this is very beneficial for your skin.

Some of the best ingredients for at-home oil cleansing are castor, hazelnut and sunflower oil. These and other cleansing oils can be combined in different proportions to suit your particular needs. Oil cleanser recipe for oily skinMost major skin care brands offer at least one oil-based cleanser. These cleansers are typically formulated using a mixture of oils such as argan, rice bran, rosehip, camellia and more. DIY oil cleansers A hazelnut and sunflower oil cleanse offers several benefits for oily skin. Both ingredients are unlikely to clog pores or cause skin irritation. Each also offers unique and complimentary benefits. It really pains me when I read about the negative experiences from people who have used either olive oil or coconut oil for the OCM, then found that the whole thing only worsened their skin, and discarded the oil cleansing forever.
