No, but it was probably Miss Nyles coming by the kitchens. Probably turned tail the second she spotted us.” I also loved the crew. They were really a family. Little Roslyn stole the show for me. I loved any scene she was in.

Can it be read without having read your other pirate books? Yes, but I think you’ll enjoy it more if you have read the Daughter of the Pirate King duology. It's as easy and fast to read as the original duology but I'd would've liked more of the romance aspect to develop. I also would've liked if the artifacts would've been a bit more explored. That part seemed a bit rushed. I also wouldn't have said no to more Alosa and Riden but Sorinda was a great main character so I can live without it. Sadly, I really dislike the cover. The age of 'assassin' heroines who NEVER killed anyone (looking at you, Celaena Sardothien) is long gone.Goodreads Librarians are volunteers who help ensure the accuracy of information about books and authors in the Goodreads' catalog. The dagger lands true, embedding in his throat. I don’t retrieve it just yet. Time is precious now.

This next chapter of pirating adventure turns it’s focus on Sorinda, deadly assassin and Pirate Queen Alosa’s newest captain, as she sails away on a mission to search for and rescue members of Alosa’s crew. This mission takes Sorinda far away from her comfort zone, mentally and physically. Charged with protecting her crew and transporting them far from balmy, tropical shores to frozen seas, icebergs, sea monsters, and ice islands. Kearan was introduced to us as a fat, ugly drunk (the stuff of romance heroes). After Sorinda emptied all his alcohol overboard, he started to clean himself up - so he no longer drinks and has put on some muscle, though of course he'll never be handsome. Fortunately, he appears to have got over the irritating little crush he harboured on her. She can't be dealing with pesky things like emotions. Right? Especially not when she and her crew wash up on an island, where she accidentally awakens Threydan, the immortal King of the Undersea, who decides he wants her as his bride. I hold perfectly still and watch as Vordan stretches out his bad leg. Alosa once used her siren song to force him to jump from a two-story height. I’ll bet he thinks about her every time it stiffens from the cold. He leans over to rub at the muscles near his knee before standing. He takes a drink from something at his nightstand, puts out the lantern, then sits on the bed. I loved every moment of this book, and it was an easy 4 stars for me. I am very hopeful that there will be more books in this wonderful series.A rip-roaring high seas escapade with a tinge of fantasy, Daughter of the Pirate King will engage and enthrall its teen audience." — Shelf Awareness on Daughter of the Pirate King The Plague has left a population divided between Elites and Ordinaries—those who have powers and those who don’t; now, an Ordinary teen fights for her life. Kearan made her face all of her shortcomings - or what she thought of as shortcomings and I loved both of them together. I also loved Kearan and Enwen's friendship but I'd also would have liked to see more of it. This book felt boring for me to be honest, there’s not much that really happened until the last part of the book. I didn’t feel any chemistry between the two main characters. Beside that, Sorinda, the female main character is for the most part of this book closed up and gives everyone the cold shoulder. I didn’t like her and even though she explains herself towards the ending, I still didn’t like her because it took her too long, to feel any sympathy for her or the choices she made.

I could do it now, I suppose. Just roll over, grab my dagger from its sheath at my side, and slice his throat. I am beyond excited to be returning to this world. I always intended to write this book, as I purposely left things unfinished and open ended with Kearan and Sorinda. My editor and I initially discussed writing this book for the ten year anniversary of DAUGHTER OF THE PIRATE KING, but the sales team wanted it sooner, so here we are!

Unfortunately, they accidentally awaken the King of the Undersea, who controls a siren artefact that grants him immortality and control of the undead; leaving Sorinda and the particularly infuriating Kearan with no choice but to save the world from the terrible King of the Undersea or fall prey to his control, and become his undead queen! I absolutely loved that we got a new perspective in this book. I loved reading Alosa’s story in the first two books, but it was really nice to see Solinda’s story in this one. She is in the first two books, but in those I found her to be a bit mysterious and I was curious about her. She is both damaged and strong in a complex, but intriguing way. But Alessandra’s not the only one trying to kill the king. As attempts on his life are made, she finds herself trying to keep him alive long enough for him to make her his queen—all while struggling not to lose her heart. After all, who better for a Shadow King than a cunning, villainous queen?

Sorinda was an unexpected new favourite. While I enjoyed the first two books in the Daughter of the Pirate King series, I never really connected with the main character Alosa. She’s badass and cool for sure, and I did appreciate her character. But the difference with Sorinda is tangible. Her feelings of being misplaced, her fear of being a failure and constantly feeling like she had taken water over her head just hit differently. She just resonated with me on a deeper level. Who knew that an assassin pirate could make me cry. The author has yet again captured the adventure, romance, and ruthless ways of the high seas in ... this fast-moving adventure with strong female characters." — School Library Journal on Daughter of the Siren Queen Vordan’s been busy since he escaped. He commissioned a ship under a false name, hired himself a new crew, and slowly began to grow his prestige, starting on the island of Butana. I have no doubt he hoped to raise enough forces to eventually usurp Alosa’s throne. I loved Sorinda, the protagonist with her single first person pov! Eighteen-year-old Sorinda is an assassin working for the pirate queen Alosa, extremely skilled and efficient in her assignments. Serious, meticulous and gruff, she is a solitary, taciturn and reserved girl who thrives in the shadows and hates being the center of attention. Sorinda struggles to interact with people, to form relationships, accustomed to keeping everything and everyone at a distance. Except for a few trusted people, for whom she would be willing to do anything. Scarred by a difficult and painful past, behind the grumpy attitude and under the biting irony hides a sensitive soul, full of torment and insecurities. She is a complex and multifaceted character with a wonderful characterization and a beautiful path of growth! She had already intrigued me in "Daughter of the Pirate King", but here, with her pov, she won me over!

The secondary characters convinced me! I was happy to find some old acquaintances again, including little Roslyn. I love the found family that is created among the group, as well as the interactions and dialogues between the various characters! The audiobook was very well done, and the narrator voiced each character believably. It was clear form the voices and accents who was who. The pacing of the narration was just right as was the emphasis and infections of the narrator. I reach the third floor, where Vordan’s corpse has started rotting, and peek through bedroom doors one by one.
