my plasterer said he was busy on a job, so I left it untill the spread could come and scratch it.A week after we applied it and it had dried, it started to rain, and the renderers stabelizing primer went from dark grey to a light grey.I thought it a bit strange, so I went up and rubbed my hand over it and noticed that the primer had gone soft and rubber like and could be scratched off with my finger nail. But first, let’s understand what silicone render is. Simply put, it’s a type of decorative finish that’s applied to the external walls of a building. It’s made up of silicone, resins, and mineral fillers. This composition gives it a unique set of properties, making it a popular choice in the construction industry. Rendering can be a messy job and although it’s outside you may still have objects and surfaces that are delicate and need protecting such as Indian Sandstone paving slabs or the similar.

Wet dash rendering, also known as roughcast rendering, is a render type that has been used for hundreds of years. It is called roughcast because, rather than trying to create a smooth finish, with wet dash render small pieces of gravel are mixed in with the render to provide a rough finish. It has been a popular choice in rural areas of the UK for hundreds of years (less so in southeast England) because it provides a finish that can protect the building from the elements very well. So, you want to K rend your home, but you already have old painted render that would be costly to remove. So, what are your options, and can you just render over the top? Coverage: Approximately 3 meters square per litre depending on porosity and how rough the substrate. Follow recommended ratios to achieve the correct consistency when mixing sand and cement. Avoid excessively dry or wet mixes. Ensure substrate is dust, release agent and frost free and is suitable to provide sufficient support

The main problem when sanding rendered walls is the sheer strength of render. Traditionally, render is made of sand and cement mixed to form a mortar to provide exceptional strength and weather resistance. To ensure this, leave the first coat for around 24 hours to dry out. Once dry, it should turn a light grey colour and look similar to the image below. You can sand a rendered wall using high grit sandpaper. Sanding is usually the first step before painting and is also an essential part of patching up old render. Since render is very hard, use a grinding disc first, followed by higher grit sandpaper for the smoothest finish. Apply a topcoat –apply a topcoat of silicone render to the repaired area, making sure to blend it in with the surrounding area. Acrylic render contains acrylic polymers, providing excellent durability, weather resistance, and color retention. It is often chosen for its versatility and modern appearance. Lime PlasterThe first step before adding any render to any surfaces is to prepare the surface to be rendered correctly. If you are rendering around any corners or up to any doorways or windows then you will need to fix some angle beads in place as these will give you a nice, sharp, crisp corner to render up to. These are effectively the same as angle and stop beads used in plastering.

is our most popular grain size and is the choice of most installers. This is because it’s easy to install, it goes far in terms of coverage so it’s very cost-effective, and because it’s more textured due to its slightly larger grain size, it also hides imperfections in the basecoat. Homeowners like this grain size because it doesn’t have a painted finish but it’s not overly textured – you can only really see it when you look closely! 2mm Render Grain Size Brushes and Brooms: These are useful for cleaning the wall surface before rendering and for removing excess render or creating a textured finish.Grinding is also helpful if you’re renovating an older house that may have required a lot of patchwork on the old render, resulting in large protrusions. Finding protrusions in your render is also common if you (or someone else) did a lousy job rendering the wall. The answer is yes technically, however there are certain things you need to be wary of. K rend is a heavy product so whether its suitable or not depends on the weight of your original paint. If the original paint on your wall is too heavy and not very strong then everything will just fall off the wall. This means you need your installer to analyse and test your current paint to ensure they are comfortable in rendering over the top without worrying about paint peeling off. Scrub off any mould with a bleach, or fungicide solution and finally hose down the wall to remove any dust and dirt that could stop the render from adhering. Safety Gear: Safety should always be a priority. Wear protective gear, including safety glasses, a dust mask, gloves, and suitable clothing to shield yourself from splashes and dust. Once the wall is correctly cleaned down you will need to remove any air vents and extend them out and also any window sills if they are particularly shallow e.g. bring them out to the new surface level of the finished wall.
