World Book Day 2023 is looming and with that comes schools up and down the country preparing to celebrate our greatest children's literature with a non-uniform day where your little ones get don a new identity. We headed to Wolstanton Retail Park to see what was available in Asda, B&M and Matalan - Marks and Spencer doesn't sell costumes - with just a few days to spare before the big day. Asda

B&M has a wide range of enchanting costumes in store, perfect for celebrating World Book Day. From Little Red Riding Hood to dinosaurs, there's something to suit every child's interests. Dressing up is so much fun when you're a kid, you can be whoever you want to be. Dressing up as your favourite Roald Dahl or Jacqueline Wilson character seems like a dream come true. On World Book Day, every child in full-time education will be given a voucher, which they can spend on a book of their choice. If your child will be dressing up to mark the occasion, you might be looking for some last minute costume ideas. If you're after more book-smart ideas on how to make easy World Book Day costumes, we've got you covered! Here are just some of our vital tips for making easy and affordable costumes for World Book Day: From the children's classic story by Eric Carle, this adorable Caterpillar costume is bound to turn heads in the playground.

Make a simple mask. Paper plates are great for making simple masks. You can turn your child into pretty much any World Book Day character they fancy with a little crafting. Disney characters can have some simple and easy-to-copy outfits, and most of them are based on books. While it may seem a tad daunting - creating an entire new look for your little one within the next three days - with a touch of imagination, a dash of parenting magic and a few staple cupboard items, you can easily pull something together using what you already have at home. Look through EVERYONE'S wardrobes. Dad's tie may make a great Penny Crayon costume and an apron could be fashioned into an Alice in Wonderland dress. Start with a stripey jumper. It can be the start of many an easy costume including Dennis the Menace, Minnie the Minx, Where's Wally, or Horrid Henry.

The event falls on March 3, which means now is the time for mums and dads to panic over how they can find affordable character clothing ahead of the big day. Your little one (with a raggedy oversized t shirt and tights) can be transformed into King Arthur, or Sir Lancelot, or Prince Charming, or Queen Guinevere, or Brienne of Tarth with just a few snips of those scissors. Use clothes from their wardrobe Get the face paints out. Book characters can easily come to life with cute painted faces. Think The Tiger Who Came to Tea or the Cheshire Cat. Adapt a PE or sports kit, or their school uniform - think Football Academy for sports kit, Harry Potter and St Trinian's for the uniform.

With this in mind, for World Book Day 2023, we want to help you win at parenting with the best World Book Day costumes. World Book Day 2023 takes place on the 2nd of March, so if your child’s school is taking part, browse our fun collection of costumes and accessories based on popular book characters.
