Description

You can use a 52v battery with the Bafang BBS02B. But there are pros and cons to going down this route. A 52v battery, when fully charged, is at 58.8v; this is very close to the motor controller’s maximum operating voltage of 60v. Below are some key facts to consider. Whilst there are higher-powered hub drive units available, nothing beats the hill climbing, wheelie-popping direct power of the mid drive. To tame the torque this kit includes the patented ‘Gear Sensor’ from Agentura REPRO by default. With other BBS units this is optional however because of the high torque of the BBS-HD, this is mandatory otherwise your transmission will be toast after 1 ride. The Gear Sensor system is easy to install and momentarily inhibits the power from the motor for just long enough to gear shift.

It provides huge torque levels (160NM), high efficiency and low noise levels. Please read our fitting guide here. Connect up the controller directly to the LCD, battery, motor and pedal sensor. There is no cable loom.If the location of your cage bolts do not fit the slots on the mounting rail, you may need to install one or two rivnuts (usually M5 rivnuts) on the downtube. One of the easiest ways to convert a bike to electric is to swap out the front wheel for one with a front hub motor. This is the approach that Swytch takes, but there's more to a good system than just a motor and battery. From our time testing and reviewing it, it's clear to us that the team behind Swytch have considered the whole system in its design. A visit to your local bike shop mechanic is a helpful step in the decision-making process. They can help you determine if your bike is a good candidate for electric technology. Once that's done, we do the real-world testing, judging the range, the ease of use and the durability of the product in question. This is the kit for those who are after an off-road focused high powered conversion kit. This mid-drive kits provide powerful ebike performance while maintaining the original pedaling enjoyment. With an integrated speed sensor, this mid-drive motor is compatible with standard bikes. A massive torque output of up to 160NM and a top speed of up to 38mph / 60kph. These motors are regarded as the very best in the EBike world. Extremely quiet and robust. Fully waterproof and internally lubricated within sealed casings.

Front hubs are easiest to fit, rear hubs are stealthy and give excellent traction, crank motors give the best ride feel. Some customers are rightly worried about the extra weight and wiring on the motor wheel should they have to do a puncture repair by the side of the road. No matter if you are pedalling or using the throttle, the assistance level sets the top speed. I was able to get up to a little above 25mph at the max assistance level but I find that speed somewhat unpleasant to cruise at. You could pedal a bit and let off, allowing your speed to go up and down as you feel comfortable, or just drop down to the second or third assistance level. If you hit the brakes the motor will shut off rather than attempt to fight the brakes. Class 2 E-bikes have a throttle that assists you regardless of whether you pedal and have a top speed of 20 mph. However, the speed is often limited as a result of country-specific regulations. In the UK, the assistance an e-bike can legally provide is up to 25kmph (15.5mph) and, after that point, the bike can go faster but without any assistance from the motor. Anything faster would not meet the UK's electrically assisted pedal cycles (EAPC) criteria, would be classed as a moped or motorcycle, and need to be licensed and taxed appropriately. The laws are different depending on the country, with the United States, for example, allowing more powerful motors – although individual states have their own legal frameworks. Which bike is best for electric conversion?and relaxing. I'm looking forward to my next ride already, and know I'm going to use it so much more. The cost of the battery is largely proportional to the capacity, also the range you can get from a full charge. If you want a monetary answer to this question, then there are ways to work out whether the investment is worth it. Take a moment to think about your current car usage and work out the cost per day/mile, including fuel, parking and running costs. Try to work out how many journeys, days or miles you will use the bike for after it is converted. Once you know this, you should be able to work out the reduction in car running costs per mile/day and, with that, you should be able to work out how many miles/days it will take for the electric bike conversion kit to pay for itself. Should I just buy an electric bike instead?

Never pull away in top gear whilst in full power mode. You should always select a lower power setting and be in the lowest gear. Treat the same as you would a motorcycle or car, and always select a low gear for pulling away. All motors are reprogrammed using the ‘Hot Rod’ settings for your ultimate performance. If you want to reprogram your controller, then consider buying a USB programming kit. Key information: Friction Drive Conversion is a simple strategy. A roller pushes against the tire on the wheel. When the roller turns, the wheel turns. It’s a reasonably easy system to set up but sometimes isn’t the most effective. If you are riding off-road, regularly riding up steep hills or towing a trailer, a smaller chainring the better. If you are looking for better top speed, then you will want a larger chainring. What is the top speed of a Bafang BBS02? Month Warranty is for manufacturing defaults and does not over miss use or accidental damage - Please keep this in mind if you live far away from our Guildford workshop. These units are extremely strong and robust and will not let you down unless abused. We undertake warranties here in the UK. You won’t find this much torque, power and versatility in any other conversion kit for the price. Sure, if you can stump up an extra couple of hundred, then I’d seriously consider the BBSHD. But, do you need that much power? You should consider the condition and componentry of your old bike. With an electric motor dramatically increasing the torque, using a low-quality or worn drivetrain will result in poor performance, with shifting being affected and the chain skipping or even snapping. Another important consideration is the brakes, adding the extra weight of an electric bike conversion kit and increasing potential speeds will put more stress on the brakes as they try to curtail momentum. We recommend choosing to convert a bike that has disc brakes as they will provide far better braking performance. I haven't heard of a lot of these brands, are they safe to use? Your old bike may not be able to be converted because adding a motor can increase torque. You’ll want to make sure your bike’s drivetrain can handle it.

A friction drive e-bike conversion means there is a roller that pushes against the wheels tyre. So when the roller turns, the wheel turns. It's not the most efficient strategy, but it's simple and it works. There is very little involved with regard to making it work but, at the end of the day, it doesn't work as well as other systems out there. The Rubbee X is an example of a friction drive conversion kit system. Our geared hub kits are compact and well thought out conversion kits for bikes with 20" (folding bikes), 26", 27.5" and 700C wheels with a range of battery capacity. There are plenty of reasons to install an electric bike conversion kit to your current bike, but the question of whether it's worth doing is going to depend on your circumstances. If you want to reprogram your controller, then consider buying a USB programming kit – available HERE. Key information: We recommend the lightweight Aikema 85SXC for road bikes, Bafang SWX02 48V or Bafang BPM for tandems and heavy duty cargo bikes. The battery mounts to the handlebars and we found that a really useful detail. It is easy to disconnect and take it away for storage, so it doesn't get stolen when you are out and about, or to lighten the bike when, for example, it needs to be carried up a flight of stairs. The motor is very small and fits in front of your pedals, and is subtle in appearance. It provides powerful torque, high efficiency and low noise levels. Please read our fitting guide here. New: AIKEMA 85SXC 36V 250W rear hub kit Hubkit with Aikema 85SXC 26" or 700C Wheel and 36V 17AH HL Battery High performance conversion kit, lightweight, quiet, discreet, plug and play easy wiring. The extra weight from adding an electric motor also impacts your brakes, so you’ll want to make sure they are effective for stopping at a higher speed. E-bikes tend to have disk brakes for this reason. If your current bike is in disrepair, has old parts, or needs other improvements, it may be more cost-effective to sell your trusty old ten speed and buy an e-bike. The BBSHD motor is waterproofed for normal UK use. In other words they are fine with rain, frost, snow and mud. However it is not designed to be submerged in water.
