About this deal

All Bad Elf’s Bluetooth receivers have an integrated LCD screen and intuitive user interface to provide status information and perform standalone data collection when needed. With the Bad Elf, you can link five devices, so your whole family can have GPS access on their devices and there will never again be any need to ask “Are we there yet? Is this still the recommended option or does anyone know of any other compatible GPS dongles out at the moment? This utility app allows owners of any Bad Elf GPS accessory to check the health of the Bad Elf hardware, view the GPS data being received, transfer and view trip logs, and install firmware updates. Our flagship Bad Elf Flex GNSS receiver is the first survey-grade receiver to support a flexible "pay only for the accuracy you need" daily token model that minimizes up-front costs and eliminates monthly subscriptions.

Bad Elf Flex Extreme delivers accuracy all day, every day, with 1 cm horizontal accuracy RTK (permanent) via NTRIP. This means it should work with any GPS app (some caveats apply in respect of those apps that expect a data connection - see below). Dual is out with an XGPS160 model that has many of the Bad Elf Pro features like logging and high refresh rates, and it will work with both iOS and Android devices. I've also found that the communication between the app and the unit isn't reliable, which may be the crux of the problem. Ready to collect spatial data in the field, just Bluetooth pair with Flex Mini and open your favorite GIS and mapping app.No need to guess the meaning of blinking LED indicators or leave your favorite app to check the status of your GPS receiver.

Because most of my tracks are recorded in a car, and they can be overlaid onto maps to see how well the tracks match with the roads. Bad Elf's line of GNSS receivers empower GIS and survey professionals to collect high-accuracy field data using any phone, tablet, or laptop. I’d like to have some GPS device accurate enough to detect speed changes from sail trim – changes in the 0.

For users with sub-meter requirements who only occasionally need survey grade, Flex standard with Flex daily tokens provides a cost-effective on-demand accuracy GNSS receiver. It won't maintain a fix for more than half a minute or so, and the accuracy will occasionally reach sub-1m for a second or two, but it doesn't seem to be logging any of the points I'm trying to record, and I wouldn't trust them even if it did since it regularly shows 0 of 0 satellites connected while reporting sub-10m accuracy. I don’t know when it will happen but it could be a neat feature (if marine apps learn to take in 0183 over BT the way they do over WiFi). The GPS Pro provides a battery life of up to 16 hours when connected to your iOS device via Bluetooth, and supports a GPS reporting rate of 10 times per second (configurable).

Note to readers: Let me emphasize that not many charting and mapping apps I tried could do what iSailor did. This is the free companion utility app for the Bad Elf Flex and Bad Elf Flex Mini -- our flexible, intuitive, and affordable survey-grade GNSS receivers. When it works, it can get a slightly better fix than an iPhone GPS (about 1-3 meters better accuracy). Today I also asked Bad Elf about Android support, but I wasn’t very optimistic as iOS does Bluetooth differently and the Dual xGPS has a physical switch to go from iOS to other operating systems. I bought the WiFi-only version due to the fact that I rarely use the 3G on my phone (mostly use it on WiFi at home) and didn't think it was worth getting it on the iPad, which is even less portable than the phone due to its size.Bad Elf is brewed by Peter Scholey, master brewer for the late and much-lamented Brakspear Brewery of Henley-on-Thames, England. Just note that the Freshdesk service is pretty big on some cookies (we love the choco-chip ones), and some portions of Freshdesk may not work properly if you disable cookies. The microUSB socket allows the connected device to be charged whilst the GPS dongle is in use as well as synced if necessary and a small detachable lanyard allows it to be attached to your key ring when not in use.

I’ve heard that some developers see their iOS marine app downloaded 10 times more frequently than the same app in Android. As far as the application is concerned, the dongle is invisible and the GPS data is presented in the same manner as if it had come from an internal GPS. The plan is to work with our GIS guys to develop the features etc, load it on a tablet (TBD) and then bluetooth the Bad Elf unit. Just having your wireless apps device able to reliably receive GPS from a specialized and also wireless sensor (with a very long battery life) is great, but having it be the central display and management point for a tiny device that can collect data on its own is a whole other level.hang this off your bow, or attach it to a float above your anchor, to reduce false alarms as a boat swings about? The left-hand screen above shows all the logged Trips currently on my test Bad Elf Pro, all but one of which has been copied over to the iPad (one-button-push easy to do). However, the accuracy at best will be like 5m, while my Android phone, for instance, might get 3m accuracy.
