About this deal

I can see both sides of this'n and would hate to have to have been the person to render a decision in this matter. It's not true-bypass, but you don't care because the opamp before drives your signal with an appropriately low impedance.

They say if you want to use them into PA's and recording software interfaces etc you would be best using a cabinet simulator pedal to get best results. It consists of Tone, Volume, and Drive knobs that let you adjust the output volume, dial in the gain, and get the perfect tonal balance. But half this thread has been me having to defend myself about a pedal some were curious about, and that's just stupid. Of the five (including the FlyRig), the American Sound is absolutely the best, by leaps and bounds, through the front of an amp.

The JF-13 AC Tone also features a three-band EQ for precise and flexible tone shaping, plus it features a Voice dial that opens up even more sonic possibilities.

I think the fact it's digital as opposed to the analog Joyos makes it, to my ear, a little less friendly with external pedals and a little more. But bear in mind that old cards were made with non-RoHS, lead-based solder which is a bit easier to work with (lower melting temperature). With such a low value I'd assume that is what it's doing, although that begs the question of why it is needed at all. The big bottom end on the joyo and the high quality of the 'attack' sound in headphones is really impressive.

However when I used it into the PA it sounded a little bit flat sounding and I eventually learned there is no cab sim included via Wamplers Facebook page. Some people in China got paid for work they were prepared to do, same as if they were Americans or Mexicans or Nigerians. This is my personal favourite distortion, It gives you that 'toppy' brittle, British amp sound that EL84 valves give you. By the way, the jumper and the empty pads after the speaker sim could be used to host a "miked cab" simulation (aka bridged-T filter), just like the SansAmp GT-2. I've used a few drops of translucent hot glue to make sure that the wires won't come off, i don't trust such a tiny blob of solder from a mechanical point of view.

I know I dont toss around back-handed comment's about other people's spending habits or expectations of value with some false ethical validation.

I want to try to add a switch for the speaker sim bypass though, and as this is my first muck-about with SMD, I think I'll go and practice on some old PCI cards I have lying about first. I did keep the Drive at 10 o/c and Volume at 12 o/c though as the PA was too big for the Venue anyway. Some of the tones are less useful, but I was able to dial in both Brian May and the Edge tones, which is pretty much what I bought it for. I know they're different types of units, but wondering how the Joyo compares to the Quilter in terms of sound/tone. However I have used it a fair number of times on gigs and the sound has been great and the noise level non-existent. Industry norms are approximately 70%, so that 15% saving is reducing your energy bill and softening your environmental impact on the planet. It's speaker sim seems to be the most "neutral" to my ears - I don't think you would be disappointed with the American Sound as a replacement for your ACTONE.
