Once confirmed that the artex is asbestos free and can be removed safely it can be steamed off using a wallpaper steamer. This makes the product safer for the user and the environment but does not compromise on performance. Steaming: Here a wallpaper steamer can be used to soften the Artex, which can then be scraped away from the current plasterboard.

Artex, Popcorn, Suretex, Wondertex are all names for that textured wall or ceiling look that is a bit like marmite – you either love it or hate it. I can only assume that these reviewers either didn't leave the product on for long enough - should be left for at least 3 hours before attempting to remove - or the artex they were attacking had a coat of paint over it. For the purposes of this guide, it has been assumed that the Artex is being removed from an easy to reach surface using standard access equipment. did a room roughly 3mx3m - maybe a little smaller The tin says it can do 3 square metres and I have a little left over. Removal is made easier with a long handled blade scraper which helps to lift it from the surface rather than spreading it around the wall, which usually happens when using a standard steel scraper.

Size of area to be removed: The larger the area of Artex the longer it will take to remove and the higher the labour costs will be.

Old buffers like me used to saw and drill asbestos flue pipe and sheet without any precautions and while many have had disease as a result, most thankfully seem to get away with it. Arguably, getting something for totally free will get a true MoneySaver's heart pumping faster than any cardio workout ever could. The instructions recommend to do the process twice to make sure everything is removed but as we were planning on using jointing compound on the walls anyway, it was smooth enough for us – we just needed the super sticky-outy bits gone. There are 5 common ways to remove Artex: boarding over, plaster overskimming, complete removal, chemical removal and steaming. My concerns are about 3/4 of the way through my dpm sheets fell down and I had to remove the debris like maybe like a m2 total by sweeping and wiping. Place the steamer plate on the surface for several seconds at a time, testing very frequently with a hand held scraper to monitor how soft it is getting and then scraping off once soft enough to do so. This is usually the costliest method, and in some cases, experts will use X-Tex to remove the Asbestos laced surface.

Some plaster-type textured coatings (mainly sold before the mid-1980’s) may contain harmful asbestos fibres, Minimal VOC content (0. Formulated by Eco Solutions from the most advanced, innovative water-based technology using “science not solvents”. In the 60s and 70s, houses were being constructed quickly and there weren’t enough plasterers to go around.Where there are additional layers of paint, it is estimated that removing the Artex coatings with X-Tex will take approximately 1 hour. Before plastering, any loose artex should be scraped off and any high spots or stipples sanded down.

Lead times are shown on the product and trolley pages and are always advertised in working days (Monday to Friday).I have spent weeks trying to remove our hallway artex, 2 layers (why oh why did the previous owners decide to artex over artex? I had success with artex remover gel by painting it on, covering it in cling film in the morning, and then before going to bed, gave it another coat and reapplied the cling film. I bought a tub of X-Tex, which is meant to turn it into a goo which scrapes off easily, and a heavy duty long handled (300mm) metal scraper. The asbestos removal technique is to remove the plaster surface in full back to the original substrate. X-Tex is one of these products and strips Artex from any surface without leaving any damage to that surface.
