Henry was made a CBE in the New Years Honours list in 1998 for his services to comedy drama and Comic Relief. The twins travel from their home through mystical lands, facing many adversaries from wicked fairies to Viking warriors, and meet lots of new friends along the way, such as the fabulous Zebracorn.

The book is illustrated by Keenon Ferrell and its unabridged audiobook edition is read by the author. We see the twins communicate through BSL as they journey through a world of wizards, storytelling Vikings, a villainous prince and a larger-than-life Zebracorn.

Both kids use jokes, humour and storytelling to help them deal with the grief of losing their father the year before. He has been a Trustee of the National Theatre since February 2016 and was awarded a Knighthood in 2015 for services to drama and charity. While intended for readers aged 8 and older, I feel that like many Middle Grade books it will appeal to readers of all ages. Lenny Henry ensures his stories have strong black representation and this novel has two strong and adventurous heroes with the twins. But four years on, history repeats itself when Mum disappears in similar circumstances, apparently taken by a fork of lightning.

Max is sure that the new wind turbines on his island are sinister, but will anyone listen to a frustrated deaf schoolboy?

Henry's first book for children is as funny as might be expected but it's also quietly thoughtful and poignant, examining ideas of heritage, family, love and belonging in a way that lifts the Chosen One troupe out of the territory of cliché. Lots of lovely characters appeared and they are all wonderful - apart from the most obvious villian! Yet it turns out that her stories serve as a portal to a another world: the Nine Dominions Along the way they face evil princes, murder fairies, mud monsters and even Vikings!Perfect for fans of fast-paced adventures, The Book of Legends, from comedian Lenny Henry is a laugh-out-loud magical story for 8-12 year olds, illustrated throughout by the incredibly talented Keenon Ferrell. He introduced characters who both mocked and celebrated black British culture, such as Theophilus P. In 2018 the BBC broadcast The Lenny Henry Birthday Show, looking back on Lenny’s career to commemorate his 60th birthday.
