The cards are overall very colorful, though a bit dark, usually because of the dark background on the pictures. The book is illustrated in black and white but includes pictures of every card, including pips and an explanation of at least one page, even several pages per card for the major cards, again linking to the Tolkien mythos. The first thing to say about this pack is that it was clearly a collaborative effort involving many different contributors, notably Terry Donaldson who developed the idea and Peter Pracownik who created the artwork. These Lord of the Rings cards are really cute I do like them, though the imagery isn’t obvious of the actual characters from the film but this may be on purpose. Apart from “normal” readings the cards are also usable in some sort of game, a card with rules and awarded achievements is also included.

It comes with a very sturdy top and bottom two-part box that includes an affixed gold ribbon for easy accessing the cards without damaging them.
