About this deal

We have shared Andrew’s Gogen puzzle on his behalf with his permission, so he is not following this thread. Solving it: going one cell at a time, up down left right diagonally, use the letter clue in the puzzle grid and step through the pseudowords to work out the positions of the remaining letters so that you have the letters a.

Since then: I have written a number of time-sliced computer models and used them to optimised special effects for television; Guest-lectured at the University of Derby's BSc Forensic Science and Law Degree courses on biometrics and on computer fraud; I've worked as a journalist in computer security, also writing the HelpDesk pages for PC Plus magazine; and designed Indian fonts that have been used in films, books, posters, newspapers and so on. The GoldenGogen is like the HyperGogen+ except that now, the clue cells can be right next to each other and the network of letters on the board is designed by hand. If I remember correctly I made it as an image on my Google drive and it was not possible to get the lines horizontal and vertical. As you go from puzzle to puzzle, first of all, the centre cell is left empty in the easiest, then another and so on until finally, you are down to just two clue letters, one of which is not in a corner so again, you only need logic to work out all of the letter positions. As you can see, it's quite heavily aliased, but scaling it down will antialias it for you, so I couldn't be bothered to redo it properly.

There are Gogens and then there are Uber- and Ultra-Gogens and whilst this book does not concern itself with the former, an UltraGogen with only two letters given away will take you well over an hour to do and in this graded book, you can choose your won level of difficulty and work you way up to the really hard ones at your own pace. This can lead to a more interesting game although it is arguably easier than the HyperGogen+ because there is an element of human design there. You can read about what happened to me in the book 'Let The Devil Wear Black' which I wrote under the pen name 'James F Linden'. Extending the HyperGogen is the HyperGogen+ which has within it a nine plus letter word hidden away. We accept anything from one-time contributions to weekly columns; any contributions beyond writing (illustrations, graphic design, etc) is also gladly received. Whilst I understand what the previous reviewer said that initially some of the words seemed odd once you got into the book they proved to be challenging.

I ran my program without it and it refused to run because there was no letter F in the other words so it never got as far as checking for a unique solution. I also worked as Derby's Pavement Artist, appearing on the television series 'What's My Line' and beating the panel. The humble Gogen puzzle is a simple puzzle that you can solve on a short bus journey but we'll have none of that here - there is a dark side, a very dark side and we are not even talking about an evil twin.

To start, nine letters have been placed in the grid – the solver must calculate the correct position of each of the remaining 16 letters. All of the letter positions can be worked out using just logic - there is no guesswork no probability, simply certainty. the way that the puzzle works so that they can get stuck into the 250 HyperGogen puzzles that follow. These puzzles are truly difficult, an ideal gift suitable for any puzzle addict who is a cut above the rest and has a lot of time on their hands. Finally, as an improvement suggestion for the presentation: if you put the clue words to the right of the grid, and the alphabet below it (with the given letters already crossed out), it's much easier to work the puzzle, whether in printed form or in graphics software.

The puzzles that you find in the newspapers only take a few minutes to complete so you will not find them here. With over 6 million of the world’s best eBooks to choose from, Kobo offers you a whole world of reading. There are a number of additional types of puzzle - the Uber-Gogen, the Ultra-Gogen and just when you thought it was all getting a bit difficult, the Hyper-Gogen puzzle. to have a large print copy, you can use the extra space in the large print books as more working out space.
