The pleasure of this audio version is greatly enhanced by Derek Jacobi's lively narration and ability to mimic many different accents. The “repetitive, robotic and melancholy vocals” to her "symbolize the relentlessness with which the internet now dictates our lives…our thoughts are watered down to a common denominator of hashtags, selfies and internet-speak acronyms. The doctor apparently managed to provide Holmes with a wig and makeup sufficiently convincing to pass close scrutiny by Dr Watson although there is no mention of how these props were obtained. He also alludes to events from A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of the Four, " The Adventure of the Red-Headed League", " The Adventure of the Devil's Foot", " The Adventure of the Speckled Band", " The Adventure of the Final Problem", The Hound of the Baskervilles, " The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire, and the untold story of the " Giant Rat of Sumatra". There may be evidence of the previous owners (inscriptions in the cover, the odd marking etc), it’s their history that makes them more precious, its all part of their narrative.

We found everyone to be very helpful and easy to work with and look forward to working with your team again. It starts with a smaller story and the tentacles of the mystery spread out to create a far wider tale with grave implications for welfare of the nation. Watson’s deep affection for his friend, and Holmes witty, dry, repartee, and amazing powers of observation and deduction, are all there to delight, and enthrall the reader. Holmes shows a touch of remorse at allowing the young lad to get involved, in fact he is so disturbed by this turn of events that he becomes even more determined to bring the killer to justice.Horowitz plots masterfully, foregrounding Holmes' trademark investigative techniques against Watson's pacey narration. Nicely captures the storytelling tone of Holmes' inventor in a galloping adventure that boasts enough twists, ominous turns and urgent nocturnal escapades to make modern moviemakers salivate .

Destined to become an instant classic, The House of Silk brings Sherlock Holmes back with all the nuance, pacing, and almost superhuman powers of analysis and deduction that made him the world’s greatest detective, in a case depicting events too shocking, too monstrous to ever appear in print…until now. The House of Silk begins with a brief, personal recounting of events by Watson, much like that in A Study in Scarlet by the original author, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The usual characters make an appearance giving validity to the story: Mrs Hudson, Wiggins, Inspector Lestrade, Mycroft, the Baker street irregulars as well as a whole host of new characters, including Mr Carstairs, Carstair’s American wife, Carstair’s sister who hates Carstair’s wife, Cornelius Stillman, an American millionaire, The Boston gang, led by the O’Donaghue twins, The reverend and his wife who run a home for orphaned, unfortunate boys, and a brief spell with Moriarty. Holmes tells Watson Ross' silence indicates he had a plan of his own, and is bothered by his fear on Holmes' arrival.

Inspired by self-confident, strong and unique women, House of Silk was founded in Istanbul by Nilay Kum. While “hashtag IRL" exemplifies her voice, tapped by SOPHIE for breakout track “Lemonade” and most recent single “L. We must take them on their own terms, then: Mr Carstairs, the troubled dealer in fine art, who is being watched by a mysterious stranger in a flat cap with a "livid scar on his right cheek".

After waiting on Holmes for some time the night before, the doctor is then at work before 11 am the next morning when Holmes stages his illness. In the meantime, Carstair’s sister is suffering from some strange malady, poison is suspected, and the two stories begin to intertwine, and the final result is both shocking and gripping. But if you are looking for something more in keeping with the original I would look at Donald Thomas. That’s one of my two main problems with The House of Silk – the characters are just not very interesting, including the man we all know and love. It’s also well-written, and moves along well, but falls into the trap of so many authorized continuations, where the author is trying so hard to be true to or respectful of the characters/settings that the story itself ends up suffering. If you enjoy this sort of fiction, you likely have a favorite detective character; I’m a Hercule Poirot fan, and never enjoy the Miss Marple stories as much because she’s just not as interesting to me. Well, in my opinion Horowitz does that and more, he invisibly keeps the fun factor in Sherlock, keeping us quietly smiling all the way through.
