About this deal

The LG has an IPS panel with much wider viewing angles, better color accuracy, and significantly faster response time when running at its maximum refresh rate. The monitor supports graphics resolutions of up to 3440 x 1440 pixels, complementing high-resolution content. However, the cable management cutout feels rather flimsy and could potentially break if pressure is applied. In Septemeber 2023, the company added the rich text application to its list of deprecated Windows features. The LG 34GN850 reaches 399 cd/m2 at 100% in SDR, but it can pulse to around 475 cd/m2 when HDR is active.

Its almost 3 feet wide, but you should pay attention to its stand’s dimensions which requires more than a foot on your desk’s depth. The 34GK950F was no slouch in terms of response times, but this new ultrawide panel should elevate the 34GN850 to the next level. The LG 34GN850 monitor offers a display diagonal of 34 inches, providing a wide viewing area for users.

It seems absurd to me that the only thing close to an Oled is just the samsung g9 neo, the thing cost an arm and a leg. LG is still using an IPS panel, but they've upgraded it to their latest 1ms Nano IPS tech, the same good stuff present in LG's popular 27GL850.Sadly, its ergonomics are rather poor and although its IPS panel has decent horizontal viewing angles, it's not as good as most IPS monitors. There aren't any noticeable issues with VRR in the desktop and in games, except there's a thin gray bar at the top of the screen in games, similar to the LG 34GP83A-B. The discount may disappear at any moment though, so if you're due for an upgrade, don't hesitate -- proceed with your purchase for this gaming laptop as soon as you can. The backlight is the clear limitation in this regard since many of the HDR 1000 IPS monitors we tested showed brilliant contrast ratios. Its superb response time and high refresh rate result in clear images with very little motion blur, and it comes with native FreeSync support and G-SYNC compatibility.

In our test environment, the monitor’s peak brightness of nearly 400 nits was too high for normal use, and we’d expect that to be true for most users. The display has very thin bezels, so they aren’t noticeable when the screen is showing all the action. Unfortunately, its sub-par contrast ratio makes it less suitable for dark rooms, and its ergonomics are poor, as it can't swivel or rotate to portrait mode. Overall, the LG 34GN850 is an excellent high-end ultrawide monitor and makes meaningful improvements to the 34GK950F, the previous best 3440 x 1440 choice. The 34GN850 changes that to a more angular pillar which is sturdier and easier to use, although its range of height adjustment is only average.

The Samsung has a higher refresh rate, but its response time isn't as good as the LG's because it has more overshoot causing inverse ghosting, as well as slow dark transitions that can result in dark smearing behind fast-moving objects. The operating humidity shows the acceptable level of humidity, in which the display will function flawlessly.
