Some of the novel's strongest moments indeed show the seminal events that lead to Meridian's awakening to social justice, and how her understanding of the sanctity and dignity of life become her North Star.In most cases mothers decide to stick with the child they birthed because that is what most people do but Meridian chose the opposite. Upon awakening, he concludes that he must take up the internal struggle of which Meridian has finally freed herself. Meridian, Anne-Marion, and other students and neighborhood residents carry the Wild Child’s casket, leading the funeral cortege onto the campus grounds.
