It activates at temperatures as low as 50 degrees Celsius (with a maximum operating temperature of 340 degrees Celsius). These fans do not use any batteries or mains electricity they are powered from the heat of your stove.

The area immediately around the stove gets extremely warm (downright hot in many cases) while the rest of the room is cool, chilly, or even cold. Heat is conducted through the base of the fan and converted to electricity which powers the fan motor.
