About this deal

Her readers appreciate her buoyant style, her eye for detail, her deft hand with character, her acute social observances, and her abundant storytelling talents. New York Times-bestselling author Sue Grafton is published in twenty-eight countries and twenty-six languages--including Estonian, Bulgarian, and Indonesian.

Either way, I’ll need the tweezers, and there’ll be more poking and prodding and I’m probably not going to like that much either.

Featuring sleuth Kinsey Millhone, it is set in the southern California city of Santa Teresa, the nom de plume for Santa Barbara. The Kinsey Millhone stories, with one exception, appeared in magazines and mystery anthologies between 1986 and 1991.

A is for Alibi by Sue Grafton started off pretty slow for me for most of the first half of the book but then it picked up after that and was fast paced all the way to the conclusion. Once again breaking the rules and establishing new paths, Grafton wastes little time identifying this sociopath. Plenty of people in the picturesque Southern California town of Santa Teresa had reason to want him dead. In "A de la alibi" naratiunea se face la persoana intai din perspectiva detectivei particulare Kinsey Millhone. While this is Kinsey’s story, her female compatriots—Gwen and Nikki Fife and Sharon Napier and even Marcia Threadgill, whose boobs “sagged down like flesh melons bursting through the bottom of a string bag”—proved more interesting than the male counterparts, who always seemed about a half mile behind and rather worse for wear. Kinsey is a tough, twice-divorced, former cop with her own detective agency situated adjacent to an insurance company in Santa Teresa, California. In collaboration with her husband, Steven Humphrey, she also adapted the Agatha Christie novels A Caribbean Mystery and Sparkling Cyanide for television and co-wrote A Killer in the Family and Love on the Run. After the publication of "G" Is for Gumshoe, Grafton was able to quit her screenwriting job and focus on her writing. Certainly, as you might expect, a story set in 1982 which was years before the explosion of the technological advances we now enjoy DOES feel dated in some ways.
