But their suspicions grow, and soon it's clear that someone on the flight is planning something devastating. I used to be a big Steel fan but after awhile it seemed all her books were cut from the same mold and I stopped reading her. Sadly, this was one of the rare Steele stories that didn’t make me cry at the end (joy or sad), so I feel a bit undone. badge_secondary": "1rem", "badge_average_score": "2rem", "reviews_card_secondary_font_size": "1rem", "star_summary_reviewsnum_font_size": "1. As the plane bears down on its destination of San Francisco, the futures of these strangers will be changed forever by a handful of accidental heroes . The story slowly built up the suspense as the ground investigation brought home some ugly truths, and it was left to Helen to bring all the passengers home. Accidental Heroes’ is a book set partially on an airplane, and partially in the office of Homeland Security. At the airport, Bernice finds a suspicious postcard and alerts Ben, who investigates Helen, a pilot still reeling from her husband’s death in Iraq.Still recovering from her husband’s death, she’s forced to deal with a new threat in her own aircraft — and there’s only so much she can handle. It was a normal day for everyone involved security staff at the airport, police and intelligence services and all the airline crew apart from one person getting on the plane was planning to be remembered FOREVER. While she didn’t use too much description, she showed enough for the reader create an image, and I think that’s the best an author can do. She’s willing to catch the mysterious stranger, and she joins forces with equally strong Ben and Bernice to stop tragedy before it strikes.

She reported it to her supervisor but the superior didn't see any alarm to the disregarded postcard that had been left by a passenger. Part of the appeal of Accidental Heroes is the ordinary quality to the many characters that fill the pages of this heart stopping novel. As flight A321 nears San Francisco, desperate choices need to be made and soon passengers, crew and experts on the ground become accidental heroes in their attempts to avert an airline disaster. Let me say, I did kind of guess who was involved when a little more than half way through but it wasn't proved to be until almost the last and didn't take away from the book's ending. Steel has really done her homework on this novel and presents her readers with an informed account based on all parties involved in these situations.I don’t think I’ll look at a pair of luxury stilettos again without thinking of Tom’s ‘Manfredo Bizarro’ reference.

It is based on the concept that, in stressful and scary situations, we meet and get to become heroes. When the plane is in the air, a TSA employee on the ground discovers a postcard with a sinister message and alerts Homeland Security. I had to give up an hour and a half from the end and that was at least half an hour after the main action had unfolded! I was worried for a few chapters that the author had ventured into a danger zone with stereotyping passengers, but I shouldn’t have been worried…a talented author knows her audience!
