About this deal

On the down side, I’d never before realized how out of tune the backing vocals on “I Want to Tell You” were – the boys probably should have honed those a little better before committing them to tape. Having worked on “Get Back,” Giles Martin found himself pivoting from the fractious headspace of the Beatles in 1969 to the much livelier mind-set of 1966. Voormann, who met the Beatles in Hamburg, Germany, in 1960 and briefly shared an apartment with George Harrison and Ringo Starr, remembers going to the EMI Recording Studios on London’s Abbey Road that summer to sit down with the band and hear their seventh studio album for the first time. Perhaps a better strategy would be to hire some young kids to play all the Beatle parts over again and re-sing it too. Also, the wicked guitar solo on Taxman was actually played by Paul, according to Geoff Emerick, and he ought to know.

Speaking to Rolling Stone in July 2021, Martin said that the software was "getting a lot better" and that he was "constantly looking at how we could approach it if I ever get to [remix] Revolver or Rubber Soul, early albums, which a lot of people want me to do". The album's opening track, "Taxman", was recorded across three Studio Two sessions in April and May. And the machinery of the submarine before the final verse never sounded so real and concrete as it does now. I expect he isn’t listening to Thelonius Monk or Hank Williams or Mozart ‘cause, you know, that’s from the past. Some 57 years later it is still a remarkable album in terms of songcraft, but those of us who weren’t around at the time probably can’t fully appreciate how paradigm-bending and genre-warping it was when first released. As heard on the Special Edition's Sessions One, this recording sounds very different from the released track. At the time Revolver was released the mono mix was seen as the definitive one, and the band and their trusty producer George Martin made a substantial investment of time in ensuring the mono mix was just right. Being an Elvis fan as well, I have been listening to the special series on Sirius XM where they take you through each of Presley’s recording sessions. Here, There And Everywhere” sounds incredibly gorgeous, and the minuet-esque “For No One” feels richer than any version I’ve ever heard. The copyright in this sound recording is owned by Calderstone Productions Limited (a division of Universal Music Group)/Apple Corps Limited.

Following the announcement of these editions in September, a preview of the 2022 mix of " Taxman" was released on Spotify [6] and iTunes. My biggest fear going into hearing this Revolver set was there might be some sort of harsh, crunchy digital edge to the production. My "Let It Be" box has horrendous sibilance and IGD, across the entire set, and I went through 3 of In contrast, the new stereo mix strives to deliver a bit more of that balanced feel, akin to the original mono mix.On the contrary, we spend a lot of our time here talking about old jazz and rock recordings that we still love. No complaints about the audio and book, but the quality control on the packaging of my copy isn't great. The real improvement is the vocals – the backing vocals were always gorgeous, but they are so full and expansive in this new mix, it is absolutely heavenly. This new stereo mix is quite remarkable in many ways, especially when you take a step back and think about what they’ve accomplished here.

Working anxiously late into the night for a week, he filled a sheet of A2 graphic paper with magic-marker sketches — the Beatles in a hot-air balloon, the Beatles in a boat — but correctly predicted that the band would choose the image inspired by their lengthening hair: an illustration of four heads in the style of the Victorian artist Aubrey Beardsley.I think, as comments here suggest, the only real base against which you can judge the Beatles is the Beatles themselves. If you do have that vaunted vinyl edition, or perhaps are one of the lucky ones to have an original UK mono pressing, then this inclusion may be extraneous for you. The concert, the first of 15 at the Kia Forum, was, as Styles announced, a place to ‘feel free to be whoever it is that you’ve always wanted to be. Having received George's help to create a whole new song from some unfinished fragments, John led the group through the rehearsals and recording while the clock ticked away the last remaining session time. Andy says: Revolver is the moment where the Beatles turned their back on the hysteria and announced they weren't going to tour anymore, but instead were going to concentrate solely on The Music.

I admit this is a total Beatlefan geek-out dream kind of thing because I think it is so bleepin’ cool! Revolver is the sound of them striving and laying the groundwork for even more ambitious music to come. This is a big deal, as most of this music has never been released, though seven Revolver-era tracks did appear in the Anthology series back in the 1990s, so there is some potential overlap. But then again, they didn’t really care about separating the instruments, because in those days most albums that were sold were in mono. Revolver’s music is the result of the band members having space to breathe and reset their creativity.
